It's pathetic, a waste of money and childish.

A good few years back, a group of lads were chasing a young moslem boy around the estate, shouting racial abuse, foul language and throwing stones etc at him.
I rushed out, grabbed the lad and we sheltered behind a car.
Turns out it was the 'right' car.
A woman came rushing out of her house, told the boys to stop throwing stones and shouted 'Oi n*gger, get out from behind my car or it'll get damaged',
I replied 'To whom are you referring?' She obviously didn't expect to find me there. She told me to F off as it had nothing to do with me.
Me: 'What has nothing to do with me?'
Her: 'What those boys are doing - he (pointing at the lad) should fight his own battles'
Me: 'So it's a fair 'battle is it? 15 on to one?'
Her: 'They ain't doing nothing wrong'
Me: ' Yes they are, they're shouting racial abuse, and throwing stones. If they aren't doing anything wrong, why do you object to us sitting behind your car? Surely if it's okay for them to throw stones at X it's okay for them to do the same to your car.
Her: (in an attempt to threaten me) 'Do you want me to call the police?'
Me: 'Yes please, and you can give them the names of those lads, at least five of them are related to you.'
Her: 'How do you....No they're not - I have no idea who they are'
Me: 'Strange how they stopped throwing stones when you told them to. Now you can tell them to go away,oh, and if anything happens around my house or X's, the police will be coming around to your house. Those lads come from the other estate - I'm sure the police will be able to identify your relations. The school on the other estate will hear about this tomorrow.'

With that the charming lady told the lads their 'fun' was over. I walked X home.

Next morning, I was walking back from the local shop, when she blocked my path and started a loud tirade telling me I had no rights, those kids could do what they wanted, it was no business of mine etc etc (insert a few expletives).
I said - Sorry I thought I had as many rights as you, as does X and his family, but as I'm not sure, perhaps she would like to write down what everybody's rights were, and how her rights were different and more important, put it through my letter box, and we can discuss it with the council, and the police, if that would make you feel better?

pause - silence from her
(this was a bit nasty)
Me: You can write can't you?
Would you like me to phone the council to get a representative around tomorrow? You can tell them face to face then.
I'd hate for you to think you're being hard done by, just because I stopped you and your relations from seriously hurting a young boy. I mean, if you really feel that's the right of you and your relations, we really should get it sorted. Of course, if it works one way, it works the other.......

For some strange reason, she walked off - and I never had any trouble from her or her nephews again.

Now THATS racial abuse! And THAT's the sort of charm a perpetrator has.

I looked up and saw my daughter and her boyfriend had watched the whole thing - they were laughing their heads off!
I asked them if they'd have come to my rescue, had things fot out of hand.
Daughter said 'I knew, once you got a word in edgeways, she didn't stand a chance!' :-D

Do police really have better things to do? They cannot put themselves in any sort of real danger (Elf & Safety), and I doubt any police would like to get half way between Maggie and her lovely friend :-( :-( :-(

Confronting burglars is also a bit dangerous for them.

No, no getting involved in dangerous situations releases them to go after real criminals - like waiting for people to drive off Talbot Green without their seat belt properly secured and then hammering them for £60. Or sitting inside a white van (air conditioned, no doubt) pointing a camera at people in a 30mph limit. And plenty of time to sit in an unmanned police station, not to speak to public but hide away and fill in paperwork (mainly cya documentation). :-( :-(

Tania. Your police are too involved in chasing motorists. Have been watching all those Police Camera Action programs from Auckland, and wonder how they catch so many motorists when there must be less than 200 cars in the whole of North Island. :-S

There are 37 Lions about to descend on your sheep soon. No chance for the sheep this time, Tania :-D :-D

John most of the cars in Nz are actually in Auckland!!
Funnily enough when I first went to the uk I was ribbed mercilessly about our crime watch which still featured stories about burglaries
Wish we were still that way :-(

Really enjoyed that video, Shane. Apparently she was wrong about the 300m, 200m and 100m warning signs. But they do have a responsibility to park sensibly and legally.

I was surprised they did not reveal either their identity card or police number. And was also surprised that they thought it an offence to be filmed on a public highway.

Had seen that helicopter before, Scozz. Really shocking the first time. :-D

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 1 May 2013 23:12

BudgieRustler,The lady in the video is wrong on two points

1, They are not required by law to have any warning signs, Government guidelines say that they should but its not law,

2, They were not impersonating police officers, civilian' police employees have the authority to man these vans.

The location/parking was questionable with the van still partly on the main carriageway

Roy

Added; For those who want to question signs then I say this, their are always signs, They are called speed limit signs, you pass them when you enter or leave a stretch of road that has a different limit to the stretch your on, if you fail to see these signs then chances are you will fail to see the camera van sign also
