Organizations such as PayPal and Banks etc, will never ask for details by e-mail. the unfortunate thing about these scams is that some people, especially some of the elderly and vulnerable get taken in by them,

I may be preaching to the converted, but these are 5 simple basic steps to avoid being caught out:-

1) Make sure you have an up to date security programme running on your computer.

2) Never, Ever, under any circumstances click on a link in an e-mail that asks details about Your Bank or Credit Cards - NEVER!!!

3) Always ignore any Pop Ups that appear on a web site you are on that say "You Have a Virus"

4) Do not buy anything from any e-mail you have received if you did not ask for that e-mail.

5) If you receive an e-mail offering you something that sounds to good to be true then definitely ignore it, it will probably be to good to be true.

There are many more precautions that you can take and I am sure other members will add their suggestions.

I regularly get emails about my account with

HSBC
Nat West
and others

None of which I bank with. I never open them just bin them.

Opening them can be the 'get in' some hackers can use.

If you do not know the company emailing you, my advice is do not open it.....

Before you open emails, right click on the line in your inbox, then go to "Properties", that will give you the sender's email address... then block them.

They usually have squillions of email addresses, so if they persist, look for something that is in all the emails (not something that could be from someone else!), and under "message rules" use that content to not download any messages with that particular content. A useful item (in Australia) is their ABN.

If I get any email with another url in it .........................

I hover my mouse over that url ................. do NOT touch it or click on it

Hovering shows the real address of the url.

It can be quite an eye opener


Send the email straight to Junk, and get the sender blocked.

We had one from a' Bank' a few days ago...we have never banked with them.
Asking for personal details etc !

The parcel collection one has been going for a while .

Pay Pal have your bank details and don't refund you unless you ask.,so don't need such details to give you a 'refund' you.... you use it to pay...don't fall for it.

For those that do have PayPal / Amazon accounts watch out.

The follow up can be that you have some kind of credit due (refund yada yada yada) but in order to pick up the credit you must first fill out a security check, which, oddly enough demands your log in details. The false security check looks authentic.

Enough people fall for this as to make it a worth while scam. As many people tie in their PayPal account to their bank private or commercial account the scam can be a big hitter when it connects.

You have only to watch any episode of "Fake Britain" to realise the size of the gullible army connected to the internet ...

I often get them plus all the Banks going, Amazon and recently Fed Ex saying there is a parcel to be collected....ignore them all

Seems like it !! i get em too. I did open a paypal account at one time when I was selling something on E bay BUT I sold it cash and have never used Paypal . I get the odd!! email that I know must be a scam and I delete it and block the sender

Paypal never send this type of message.

On the rare occasion they do send a message, it is with general content only and is addressed to you by person.
