I love our Queen but at 87 it is not time for her to retire.

Yes, yes, yes I know traditionally she has to remain on the throne until she dies but..... In this day and age should she have to.

Only if she wishes to...but as she has always made it clear that her life is dedicated to her position as Queen, I very much doubt it.

No one is making her...she could abdicate if she so wished..but personally I'd like for her to remain on the throne whilst scaling back her duties....at her age she deserves to rest up a bit..nothing wrong with that at all.

She has four children and several family members to deputise for her.

Personally, I would like Wessex and Princess Royal step up. Both very popular with the public. Charles could be appointed Emperor of Tristan da Cunha or South Georgia. And William, Kate and Harry would hate to give up their normal lives, but perhaps the time has come to do a lot more of the routine.

JohnLovesHorlicks you are so funny at times - had to look up South Georgia - wasn't sure where it was.

There was a suggestion on the Beeb, that she is trying to cut down on foreign visits.
......
edit - it was a statement by a Palace spokesman
"The reason is that we are reviewing the amount of long-haul travel that is taken by the Queen."
......
Jet lag isn't very pleasant for anyone, let alone someone of her age who has to 'perform'. Nodding off at a function is not an option ;-)

It's time for the Queen to retire if and when she decides too, Age should not dictate, I thought we had laws against age discrimination,

If she wants to carrie on until she takes her last breath its OK by me she has family who can step up/stand in as and when required

it is not a tradition in the British Royal family, as it has become in the Dutch Royalty.

Plus the fact is that the Queen dedicated herself to the position, and to the British piblic, since she was very young. So, I doubt very much that she will ever abdicate

However, that does not say that she should not now be allowed to slowly step back from duties, and begin to take life easier.

I gather that William is leaving the RAF this year, and that he and Catherine will begin to step up more often.

I still believe that it is wrong to continually ask if she should abdicate ........

......... perhaps, at heart, I am more of a Royalist that I ever thought ............... or than others are.

It will be a sad day for this country if and when the queen does cease to be the best monarch this country will ever see she has done more good than any body else has. she has devoted her life to the people. long may she continue to do so. god bless her.
