Community Advisor Report 9 May 2013 13:54

Hi everyone,

Well there seems to have been a lot of activity on the boards over the past weekend. I have been carefully reviewing all reported posts and speaking to our customer support team. There are a couple of things I want to set straight. Part of my role as Community Manager is to get to know our members on the boards, and to make sure the boards are being used appropriately. They are here for your enjoyment, to get help and help others, and to be able to chat about general topics.

If your post is reported to us we will reply with automated responses, although the support team will add in details of your post and details of why they have removed it. We also keep a note of how many times someone has been reported to us and how many times a member reports posts by other people. Different members of the customer support team will review the reported posts and decide whether they should be reinstated or removed, and although we follow strict guidelines, the decision will come down to personal interpretation of these guidelines so there will not always be 100% consistency in the decisions made.

We do not like to ban any members, and instead prefer to have a conversation with the member and see if it is an issue we can overcome. However, we take bullying, offensive language, and general nastiness extremely seriously.

Please think long and hard about the content you post on these boards and if you are reporting a post, think carefully about the reasons why. If we think that a particular person is being targeted by having their posts reported, we will take action against those reporting the posts. We will also not stand for people ‘ganging up’ on any member. Please remember that what you post on these boards is a reflection of yourself and it is how I will get to know you. These boards are here for the enjoyment of everyone, and if we think any individual or group of people are trying to sabotage the enjoyment of these boards for another person, we reserve the right to ban anyone at any time without warning.

Perhaps you should look at an indiviual person who is on an ego trip and explain that its not just for them telling others how good or clever they are . For Some people on here its a lifeline and comforting for them, lots of others have just stopped posting.Take Care and do your best.**M**.

What about this error message we seem to get when trying to post ?........can you fix that as well ?

We have lost one of our Friendly members walked out yesterday said goodbye to us fed up with GR not doing fixing jobs.

You'll have a lot more walking soon......... :-S

I could not agree more, Dizzi.

If they took time to step back and take a real look at themselves, the very members that are making all the noises would see how ridiculous and childish they really look to someone looking in from the outside.

Good to see GR are taking steps to get back in the owner driving seat.

Nicely worded statement Natasha.

So pleased to see the Opening Post of this thread. I am sure nobody wants unpleasantness and good debates and good fun threads is what most of us enjoy.

Thank you Natasha, good to see someone taking a proper interest. Let us hope the boards now calm down and we all resort to being the adults we are supposed to be.

LadyScozz Report 10 May 2013 00:33

Thanks Natasha :-)

Hopefully The Phantom RR'r will take notice.

Financial members can post, report etc....... non-financial members cannot post; I believe they CAN report, this MUST be stopped. We're not here to give a small-mind person their jollies. Not much point in banning someone, if they can go to another computer and report posts.

:-D

Are the times of post a bit haywire? Sure I posted this morning (10th). And Scozz posted about an hour ago :-S :-S

Jenxx Report 10 May 2013 10:47

Thank you Natasha
hopefully now people will think twice about what they post,
and everyone should read what they have written before they press submit

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 10 May 2013 10:59

Agree totally with thinking long and hard before posting on serious threads, Jenxx :-)

But I do feel these fun threads need to be treated with more tolerance. They need to flow naturally and quickly to work. I am very slow at typing and probably a bit slow-witted as well and don't understand many of in jokes, so try to stay off them.

But they are definitely good to read, and usually get reported at some point for no obvious reason - other perhaps than jealousy that they are rattling up loads of fast responses, appearing at top of threads, and the Opening Poster may be disliked by someone with an old score to settle.

Hopefully these fun threads will now be allowed to entertain in their near-the-knuckle fashion without the phantom finger of censure.

And one poster said once he never needed to read a paper because we kept him up to date with all the important news and views from across the world. How disappointed will he be when he returns?

~`*`Jude`*`~ Report 10 May 2013 11:26

WE ALL NEED TO THINK ABOUT WHAT WE POST....serious or not serious, even thinking to the extent of..."will this annoy some one to the extent of starting bad taste"...we all have opinions, but there is more than one person doing the goading and putting threads up that will get people's backs up!!

And some now sounds holier-than-thou!!!

Rambling

Rambling Report 10 May 2013 11:49

Thankyou Natasha

May I just note that this was first put on the genealogy board, and was only put here some time after, 'by request' I think? The circumstances of the reports which to a greater extent made Natasha's post necessary, were on the Genealogy chat board...not this one.

I also thank GR for upholding the reports on Genealogy chat , and one here, which were un-necessarily upsetting. That they dealt with the poster with evident tact is a credit to them, but consistency will be essential I think.

It is all very well suggesting people may be 'ganging up' but if those people have INDIVIDUALLY come to the same conclusion that a post is un-acceptable then it is NOT a 'gang' it is a consensus of opinion.

That said, hopefully people will continue to feel free to post, and to report if they have a genuine concern. :-D

Well said Rose .
The choice of the words "ganging up" was most inappropriate I thought.
