I don't understand when I hear employers slagging off British unemployed for being lazy.

How can anyone complain that the unemployed are lazy? They have no job to be lazy at!

and there was also a piece in yesterday's MailOnline about that mother having boxes and boxes full of things that it doesn't sound as if they use!!

How is that saving money????????????????????????

Thanks Wend.

I am,in fact,the woman who never did.

I read that artice. There was a programme once about a woman who bought everything on coupons but she did look like she had an awful lot of crisps and Vienettas.

The only vouchers I tend to use are the ones that appear in the papers sometimes to give a discount at Aldi because that knocks money off the shopping I would be buying anyway.

Well "Where there;s a Will there's a Way" so they say. Has any one seen in the papers (well The Daily Mail anyway) the article about a young lad abt 16 who is saving his mother a huge amount of money with his saving money off vouchersand on line saver sites etc. they had a supermarket bill of aprox £165 and they only paid abt £1.60 . Their Christmas lunch cost them 10p . Mind you think it takes an awful lot of time and patience to keep that up. Perhaps Sharron if you found that article you could cut it out for him lol!

I grew up with a mother who was too poor and had too much to do and a father who didn't tackle too much because it was not his place to.

Poverty can be a very fine excuse for not doing all sorts of things.

Well my mom just liked people to think she was hard done by and she was always telling people how awful her children were to her and how hard she worked for us when we were young and yes she did work hard but we knew that and we weren't horrible to her. The worst sin I did was to go on a weeks holiday with my OH and 2 children and we didn't take them. How selfish was I!

Sharron Report 12 May 2013 13:23

I just don't understand what they gain from it,or what they want.

If I could conjure up more money I would have done it for myself already.Maybe he thinks I have because I don't keep harping on about it.I would do me no good if I did.

Why does he think I want a detailed account of his income? Mine is fairly similar.

After telling us about the parlous condition of his digestive system he said he liked to come to us and "eat healthy" once a week because he couldn't afford fresh vegetables himself and had just bought five cheap ready meals for the week!

Reading this so reminds me of my mom in her later years, although she and dad had more money each week than my OH picked up to keep 4 of us she was always saying how little they had and how they couldn't afford to do things.

I guess some are just like that.

We have a friend who, for various reasons, has had to claim benefit.

His conversation now is peppered with how poor he is,how much he gets and will be getting. This does appear to change every time he tells it too, always with the worst case scenario.

He is kind and does a lot of odd jobs for me that make life easier, and cheaper and for this I am happy to give him food we have prepared. It is a case of looking after each other.

Now,I relish the challenge of getting as much life as possible out of each penny and don't feel desperately poor, just a bit more challenged than usual.

Four of us and my OH,who has been on short hours for a very long time and sometimes has to claim Job Seekers, go to a quiz once a month and put the winnings into a kitty to use for a birthday meal for each of us,sometimes for two of us at one time now.

I just about lost it on Saturday night when he sat round my table, eating my food, prepared with my benefit money while we were discussing where to go for the birthdays of two of us next week and deliberately declared that he would not be able to go because his benefits would not have been paid in.

It was just said to draw attention to his sad plight when he knew very well that the kitty was paying and I was very, very cross.

I know he will be out today.perusing the car boot sales for things he doesn't need and for people to listen to his story of woe.
