Genes Advisor Report 13 May 2013 12:08

Hi everyone,
we know the Greaders threads are really popular. We are also avid readers ourselves here in the Genes office. We wondered what your thoughts would be about having a specific Book Club message board? Would you be interested in one?
We would love to suggest books to read each month. But also you could add your own comments about books you have read.
We'd love to hear what you think.

Is this being given priority over suggestions for other message boards

But I do like the idea

Genes

Genes Advisor Report 13 May 2013 12:26

No, not at all Glitter Baby. If you do have any suggestions for other message boards please add them to the Suggestions board for Natasha to collate. I'd rather it be added there than lost in this thread.

Thanks,

Estelle

Was posted on Suggestions board nearly a year ago and ignored which is why I asked the question.

Gardening, crafts, religion, bird watching, current news and other topics are also really popular.

A return to seperate general (for more serious topics) and chat (for light hearted threads) would be a better idea IMHO. :-)

As reading taste is very individual, surely there enough book suggestions in the media already. Most bookshops have one, there is Richard and Judy also. Its just that is there really any need for anymore.? There is also a thread on here already for opinions on books.
It would be better if genes sorted out the problems already in existance in my opinion. :-)

Well I think its a good idea

I am never home to watch Richard & Judy & a dedicated book thread sounds great - easier than having to trawl through all the chat threads

I also dont get the papers so this is really one of the few places to catch up on good reads

Agreed its only personal opinion - but then so is mine

Not sure what other problems exist - at least it has stopped throwing Errors at me - which was the only one I knew of

I last read a book four years ago and have no intention of ever reading one again....so it would not interest me :-D

Just to add, I just went back 6 pages to find a thread about books last posted 4 days ago...so would a board dedicated to books be worth while??

So you`re thinking of having a "specific" board called "Book Club message board".
As reading is just one of many hobbies why not have a "Hobbies board"?
Each thread on it could cover "specific" hobbies that way, instead of catering for just one particular hobby.

Can I suggest a hobbies and interests board. That would encompass reading, crafts, bird watching etc.

Besides Greaders which has been active since approx 2003, there is also Mersey's books and kindle books I am reading. I have to say that it has always been difficult to get anyone new to join Greaders but the team are very welcome to join us :-D

I'll second Ann and Budgie's suggestion of a 'hobbies' board, threads like the bird watching and gardening, maybe cookery also would run along nicely on a dedicated board whereas on General they tend to slip off and have to be searched for :-)

And football, and tennis.

GR staff started a thread about television programmes (in the UK), I think.

Yes, a Hobbies and Interests Board would be a great idea.

For Jax who commented on how far back a book thread was. That is because the people on Greaders threads are busy reading, those threads are mainly active every 3 to 4 weeks and also I am away from home and not on here as much. However Mersey's thread is often active.

'Emma' Report 14 May 2013 10:44

I am on Mersey's thread but not so much of late as I
am struggling to get through a book at the moment
which is unusual for me as am usually quite a quick
reader.

I'd like to echo the thoughts of whoever suggested a return to the old style Chat and General board....where the more serious minded members tended to congregate towards General and the more light hearted towards chat. (yes i know it's a generalisation but that's kind of how it worked with folk from both sides flitting across whenever their mood or their fancy took)...

Having said that I would enjoy and read a dedicated book board.
