Errol, I think the idea is that if there was a board for reading and interests and hobbies it would take those threads off the chat board thus freeing it up from getting clogged and slow running.

Kemp Genealogy site or not I bet there are quite. Few people on here who are paid members who do not often do their trees these days. :-)

argument ;-) :-(

Island Report 16 May 2013 23:48

Arguments are very popular.

If there was an arguments board you could charge one pound for a five minute argument or eight pounds for a course of ten. It would raise funds for a discount on our subs. :-D :-D

are GR male???
Is GR male ????

It seems to me that someone puts it on suggestion board then you wait .................................and BINGO G come up with a brilliant idea!!!!! :-S :-S :-S

Dont think we need another greaderss thread the one that runs is probably enough as this IS a website to find your ancestres!!

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 16 May 2013 19:42

So we have a plethora of boards, each about its own subject.

um sorry if I am getting this wrong but don't we already have that? They are called threads.

Where will it end?

We cannot have a different board for each topic - that is just plain daft surely.

Let us not forget or lose sight of the fact that this is not a bulletin board site - it is a genealogy site that happens to have a general board. Let's keep it in perspective.

Hobbies and Interests board would be good. As well as the threads already mentioned you could include the writers thread too, can't remember the exact thread title, sorry, don't think that's been mentioned yet.

Hi there Estelle..

Ann will be pleased I am back and won't be sending my reviews and recommendations via e-mails to go on here... Even with my year away from GR I kept up my Greaders.

Glossie Ann runs a good service and Jax as we take about four - five weeks to read our books etc we would be a few pages back.

Plus we have a fresh Recommendation, Review and voting thread each time.

We certainly could do with a few more in the group.

Persie ;-)

alisoun, put Greaders into search and loads of threads should come up. It is not one thread but a series of threads that come up every six weeks. Each member on the thread chooses two books they would like to read, we then vote for two books each (but not voting for our own books). About a day later the vote is counted and books to be read named. Six weeks later we review the books we have read and another suggestions thread goes up. I will nudge up the May threads so you can see. :-)

I personally think why fix what is not broken.....

Some of the well known threads are doing well on there own , and surely it would be best to fix the problems that need fixing before doing something new......

Just my opinion :-)

Hobbies and Interest board sounds good. Gardening, Mersey's Books, AnnG's Greaders, Crafts, Television, Theatre, Football and Other Sports, Household Tips, Pets, etc.

Why not just try one board for now and see how it goes - and if successful, then add other boards, as suggested.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 16 May 2013 01:50

I would have to question why GR would want to take a well read thread and give it its own board. Would we see this happening for any popular thread?

I have to wonder what the motive is and whether it would actually merit a board all of its own.

Of course, I shall ignore the cynical voice in the back of my head that is telling me that GR is owned by brightsolid which in itself is a part of DC Thomson - a PUBLISHING company. I am sure that there is no ulterior motive whatsoever.

As many members have already stated, surely it would make more sense to have separate Chat and General boards or maybe a hobbies board although I cannot help but think that many would also prefer threads to be all in the one place so you can easily flit between them rather than have to keep moving to different boards all the time, particularly if watching a number of popular, fast-moving threads.

I'd like to echo the thoughts of whoever suggested a return to the old style Chat and General board....where the more serious minded members tended to congregate towards General and the more light hearted towards chat. (yes i know it's a generalisation but that's kind of how it worked with folk from both sides flitting across whenever their mood or their fancy took)...

Having said that I would enjoy and read a dedicated book board.

I am on Mersey's thread but not so much of late as I
am struggling to get through a book at the moment
which is unusual for me as am usually quite a quick
reader.
