What does your dog do to get your attention at 4am when he needs to water a lamp post,

My Dog is not allowed in the bedrooms but we do allow him on the landing.

Its not happened very often but he never barks, He come into the bedroom and wakes me or OH up by grabbing a hand in his mouth and gives it a gentle tug whilst wagging his tail but wont let go until he has led you down stairs and to the back door.

All my other dogs have just barked at the back door until the whole house is awake

I think I must be the only one on GR with a dog or only one with a dog that needs to take a leak in the middle of the night :-S

Hi Roy

My beautiful G.Shepherd used to come round to my hubby's side of the bed, never mine, and doggy whisper in his ear. She was such a gentle soul.
He used to get up straight away talking sweet nothings to her. If I ever had to wake him, it was all moans and groans :-)

Dear J.
Whilst technically correct, it is morning-time, 04:30 is, frankly, an abominable time to wake up, and mummy would really like more than 5 hours sleep per night.
Thanks everso.
Mum. X

Ps. I don't give a monkeys where your Tree Fu Flippin' Tom is. It's 4:30. Down your trouser leg you say? Again! Oh, you wag.

Is 'he' a 'dog' or a 'bitch' ?

If 'dog', you must know what the middle of night means, to an oldie ;-)

My nearly 15 year old dog has a bladder like a camel and sphincter muscles like...well I can't think of the word right now! lol She has never ever woken me up in the night...she is so polite :-D

The only thing that wakes me is when she is dreaming and makes snorting sounds.

Roy, I think your dog is so sweet and so gentle <3

I have to say I'm never woken up in the middle of the night by either of my two.

If they need to *go* during the day they will keep pacing about and refuse to settle until they're let out..........but I mostly let them out for a try every couple of hours anyhow.......

Porkie_Pie Report 15 May 2013 19:04

Well to be honest, I could be wrong about him waking (me or OH) having given some thought to the situation OH's side of the bed is nearest the door :-0 so it may be that she has him better trained than I thought :-|

Barb, I think its because of the best friend thing :-D

Gins, He is a 2 year old dog, The middle of night and oldie thing doesn't apply to me YET ;-)

He is very sweet and gentle with family and friends but very protective when family is approached by strangers he always puts himself between us and any stranger.

I've also found, by actual test,
When he is wet, he is the loveliest.”

He never wakes us in the night cause he wants a pee, but if l can't sleep and go down stairs he will often go out and do one anyways:)...what a good boy:))
The only time he wakes us is if he hears something, like the milkman at 4 or 5am

Jay Boy our rescue springer was ill treated and chained in a yard for over two years. Sooo when we got him I gave him a bed at the side of mine so if he needed to go out I would wake and let him in the garden,(better that than to get him used to peeing downstairs on mi carpets). The first 5 weeks were horrendous every 3 hrs but now he sleeps until 5.50 am 10 mins before my alarm goes off and we have never had any accidents. He woke me by puffing with his awful breath in my face. Hope to cure this with a trip to the dentist next week. ;-)

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 16 May 2013 08:29

I don't have a dog now but the dogs next door are a nightmare, they bark at anything and everything through the night and the day. The owner sometimes stays away at his girlfriend's but even when there he ignores their barking. They spend a lot of time alone, as he works. Everyone around here is fed up with the disturbance. I am usually up during the night and used to look out if they barked thinking someone or something was about but the security lights were not on (motion sensor ones) so heaven knows what they bark at.

The owner is an idiot, when he got one of the dogs as a new puppy he brought it home, left it in the conservatory where they sleep, with the older dog and went off to his girlfriend's for the night. Early hours of the morning we heard whimpering and thought the old dog, as we thought the only one, was in distress. When we looked out we saw the puppy crying in the garden, he hadn't even told us it was there let alone gone off and left it. Moron.

My dog makes a yawning sound and sits down to let me know he wants out lol.....

He does bark when the Postman or paperboy arrives in fact he totally loses it but I blame myself for this....I have tried to fix the problem but think it may be a bit too late now :-(
