Can we go back to smoking in pubs? :-D

Wouldn't smoking make the pub smell and make it difficult to see who you are speaking to?

Europe is suggesting a smoking ban in any built up area with a 20mph, 30mph or 40mph speed limit. Total ban on smoking in pubs, shops, private houses, the street, back gardens. £60 automatic fine for first offence, £600 for second and the third cigarette is placed in your mouth hot end first. :-) ;-)

What on earth would the government do with losing all the tax from tobacco sales.

Probalbly shut down the NHS and stop OAP heating allowance altogether.

apparently we're going to be fined up to £600 for such offences. l think banning people from smoking in the street is bloody stupid, for goodness sake what next:((((

And if we left the EU, maybe we could start to be more British minded, maybe not buy so much from abroad, sell more abroad perhaps, god knows but it must be better to leave.....all these stupid rules!!!!

I cant help but feel that the government has shot it self in the foot with non smoking in pubs rubbish how many pubs have closed down since it happened :-(

I don't use pubs much but more than I did when pubs were full of smoke and would probably stop competely if smoking were allowed in pubs again.

There is only one person I have ever wanted to stop from smoking and that is me.

Unfortunately smoke is something you do have to share with people,whether they want any or not.

If smoking were allowed again I would not use our social club anymore so they would lose my membership fee and any revenue they might gain from me during my visits which are more frequent than my pub visits.

altho pubs are closing i do think its better you cant smoke in them as they smell better lol

Pubs seem to have been closing down all through my lifetime. Don't drink and drive, petrol shortages, inner city proper pubs being pulled down and theme pubs on new estates not same, foreign booze trips, cheap booze in shops here all have contributed.

I would never go into pubs when they stank like an ash tray and, if I went to a restaurant and someone lit up the other side of the place, I used to often make my excuses and leave. It really is horrible, you know - particularly for people who have smoked for many years and stopped. I do go into pubs now - quite happily. Not to drink (cos I don't). But food in places like Wetherspoons is good and good value.

Sharron...quite agree, we don't want smoking back in pubs etc, but out in the street is abit much, it'll be no smoking in your own homes before long:((((...although alot of people have stopped doing that vuluntarilly :))

Before the ban, my argument that I had as much right not to have to smoke as they did to smoke never seemed to carry much weight with smokers.

Thin people with fag in hand always felt they were entitled to criticise me for not being thin as well and to advise me on how to control my eating!

I have had the best laughs out in the beer gardens with the smokers......and i shall continue to toddle out with my ecig to join them now i'm giving up lol...

I don't so much mind the no smoking ban in pubs but do think that legislating beyond that is going too far.

What is good about smoking? I used to smoke for first 38 years of my life, but cannot for the life of me remember why. Think it was "cool" when I was a teenager and "social" when I was working. Adverts and TV programmes always gave smoking as a positive image.

Why in these days of it definitely not being advertised, not shown in most TV programmes and not being at all cool or sophisticated (quite the opposite) do people still smoke anywhere. I honestly don't understand any more what is the attraction of sticking a roll of tobacco between your lips and setting fire to it:-S :-S

Going into a pub or restaurant now is a pleasure. When smoking was allowed I used to go home after a visit to our local and strip off and wash. The smell of cigarettes clings to you like dark brown stuff to a blanket.

And our landlord says more non-smokers are now coming to his pub so he is no worse off.

ps. Just love to see the little groups outside of pubs and restaurants today, a huddle of coats, gloves, scarves and a puff of smoke coming from it. Hehehe, waited years for this and I LOVE IT.

The arguement about smoking keeps you thin is abit stale now surely...l did put on weight when l stopped and l'm still trying to lose some of that, but big people smoke and enormous people smoke, as do thin people, smoking helps to keep you thin because you don't eat as much, if l was hungry l would have a fag.
But no one should judge you by your weight:(((

l do agree that the pubs etc are so much better without smokers, but the smokers shouldlnt be penalised, it was the government that used to encourage us all to smoke especially soldiers, so it was passed on by generation!!

and to be honest l loved me fags, felt much more at ease and relaxed in difficult situations, but feel fine with out them:))
