Hendon is not a place I'm likely to visit, but if I ever do, I shall photograph the XG 474 for you.

… and so I bought a little extra something to improve my porridge in the morning!
4 litres of Maple Syrup should last me until the weekend (I hope so; I get carried away with this lovely liquid!
This is 'light' - the nicest and first sap tapped.)

[This quantity is greater than 1 US gallon and less than 1 Imperial Gallon.
You knew that, of course!]

This following gen is for Karen (itd) ref my picture. (I’m not keen on ‘avatar’!)
Here’s a little history about it, as you prefer, Karen.
I have used this chopper pic recently.

I took this picture in mid October 1967 at RAF Seletar - this was in the middle of and slightly to the north within Singapore.
I was the starter crew and seeing off this chopper - Belvedere XG 458 ‘J’ - on its ‘air test'. It had just been (re)built - in the hangar with the wider doors open - after removal from its very large crate in which it had been shipped from the UK.

Shipping was without rotor blades, rotor heads, rear tail pieces, landing gear etc installed.
You can appreciate the size of the airframe and the huge box required.
This size took many men - lifters and shifters - to put it where it was required.
It was heavy indeed and thus no mean feat at all!

Along with another 10 or so choppers they were all scrapped in March 1969; I was there!
One aircraft - XG 474 ‘O’ - was the last to land and it was shipped to UK; it is in the RAF Museum at Hendon, NW London.
I last caressed the old girl’s left front landing gear on my visit in August 1977.

If anyone is paying a visit to Hendon perhaps they will please take a photo of XG 474 for me. Exhibits are frequently moved within the museum, BTW.

Another chopper, XG 454, is in a Museum in Manchester.
Incredibly, I saw it briefly on Dragons’ Den; I could not believe my eyes!
