Good for you Liz.
I hope you enjoyed your little treat and that the thoughtful gesture helped to cheer you up after the incompetence of your o.h. insurance company.

I really do hope that your son's gf's little boy will cope well with the diabetic pump and this will help him to be more like his school friends afterwards.

Thanks Kandj, no luck on last night's or Friday's lotteries, but got my tickets for next week.

Car is ok, with service and mot and purchase, it's cost about the same amount as o.h. got from the insurance, so we are hoping that it lasts for a year or so now, with next mot end Nov 2014.

Little lad of my son's gf is having his diabetes pump fitted Monday so will have to have two weeks off school while his body adjusts and they learn what to do with it. If it means a more normal kind of life for him then it will be great.

Oh and because Morethan mucked o.h. about the other week, by first losing the paperwork re old car so not letting us knowabout write off sooner, and also passed him from pillar to post while trying to sort out new insurance, they sent a hamper to say sorry. I looked it up on the hamper site and it's worth £20, has different flavoured muffins in and some small jams and marmalades and tea and coffee too, as well as a little teddy. All in a nice basket, it's the Special Breakfast hamper. With o.h. being diabetic, guess who got most of the goodies lol

Thanks Uzzi, sorry not been in contact, I am exhausted!

'New' car is in for new cam belt and MOT today, had a service last week so after all that it should be ok for the next year if o.h. is careful! It is almost like driving our old one but needs a good clean inside, the people who had it for the past two years never had it serviced, or cleaned out, it was full of empty crisp bags and sweet wrappers when we went to look at it. He did just about manage to take the rubbish out before we picked it up but I want the seats steam cleaned before I will wear anything decent in there. I wiped the inside of the windscreen the other day when it got all steamy and the white cloth I used came away black, maybe they smoked, I don't know but it was filthy and streaky so not clear to see out of.

No more luck on the lottery so far!

Son's job is going ok altho I think getting up for work every day is proving hard after so long lol, luckily his gf's little lad is awake early for school so no chance of my boy oversleeping!

Still dreaming tho, as no luck last evening lol

Best bit of luck is my lad getting a job at last!

Picking up 'new' car tomorrow and the 'spare' money from the ins. co will pay for an mot at the end of Nov and a service, not something the current owner has done (service) since he had the car two years ago. We trust our mecanic when he said it was worth buying tho and hope we will have good little runabout for the winter and then can think about whether we (o.h) wants to change it for something newer in the spring.

Of course, if my numbers come up bigtime..........

Well no more wins on the lottery etc yet but some luck in other directions.

At last after more than two years, my son has a job!! He starts on Tuesday at our local Council offices (15 minutes walk from his home) and it's a 6 month trial so I hope it works out and he gets the permanent position next year. The money is ok and he will at last get back into a routine of going to work sort of 9 -5 (slight flexi time apparently so could be 8-4 sometimes) It will give him a new interest and he and his gf will not be in each other's pockets so much. She met him just as he finished his previous job so has never known him when in work. I am so relieved as he was getting quite depressed and demoralised.

We heard yesterday that our little car has definitely been written off but because it was in good shape until the accident, we will get more than expected for it so that will more than pay for the new runabout and we can see how good that turns out to be and maybe wait to buy anything more expensive. Hopefully o.h. will start biking to work more again, he has used a car so much since his accident earlier in the year and has put a lot of weigh back on, which being diabetic is not good for him.

Now for the lottery tonight, crossing my fingers it comes up trumps for me again!

No Ann, we have just been looking at runabouts on our local gumtree, there have been several -- we want another Fiesta as we are so used to ours. When we know what's happening about our broken car we will know whether to go for a newer car later on, we won't get much for our poor little motor.
Have just arranged for it to be taken along the road to our mechanic and he will give it the once over, it will need a new cam belt as the previous owner hasn't had it done, unless it was done before he bought it two years ago. They have to be changed at 8 yrs or 120,000 miles, our car had a new one a couple of years back altho the mileage is under 50,099 and this car we are looking at only has about 75,000 on the clock. For the last two years they have had it they have only used it for work to a local school and back mostly the same as our car. Ours had a long run when I went to Buckingham recently and again when we went to Wroot in the summer.

If I get anymore small wins on the lottery I will have enough to pay for this new one lol I wouldn't mind a few more noughts on the next lottery win tho!

Brenda your new car sounds good and it will be nice as you say to see your old one still in the family . Enjoy the new car xx

Hope the car suits you and is reliable.
Just changed my car to a .hyundai i20 from a Picasso 2000 cc.
My late OH loved it and I was reluctant to let it go...so I passed it on to my daughter.
Was a bit crafty,as I know it will be used for my granddaughter with her 4 children, but didnt want the others to think I was favouring her...so her mum will have to share with her.
Glad it's still part of the family, and Im getting used to the newer car.
Didnt buy new,but 2 yrs old with 3 yrs warranty still on and done less than 10,000 miles..getting used to it.
You have done well with lottery which helps a bit with all the extras you've had.
Hope you get your specs!

After a lot of rushing around looking at runabouts, we think we have another Fiesta Freestyle, even the same colour as our poorly one, but a year younger and low mileage like ours, so we will know tomorrow if it's worth having, our mechanic is going to look at it for us as it's just up the road from his garage. Only £350 altho it only has a month's mot but if mechanic thinks it's ok it will be worth getting.

I also won again on the euromillions, I had missed checking the numbers on Friday and won £6 and got another £5.50 last evening. That's a total of £202.90 in the last couple of weeks!!!

Thanks to whoever is looking out for me lol

I badly need new specs so this will help out a lot.

Good news re s.i.l's dog Ruby, she is making a good recovery and hasn't had to be operated on for the while, she is on medication and a special diet and is putting on weight, is full of energy and growing well.

Thank goodness she has done so well, s.i.l and b.i.l. were heartbroken at the thought of losing her.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 27 Oct 2013 05:56

Well what a difficult two weeks it's been, o.h. has been in turn grumpy and depressed, the weather has been miserable, and we have only managed a couple of days out, with me having to drive back in the dark when I really don't feel up to it (o.h. can't see to drive in dark with headlights coming at him).

We heard from the garage on Friday that the car will probably be written off, there is £4000 worth of damage done. How the heck o.h. managed to do that much just lurching back into a small tree is amazing, the mechanic said he was surprised it had done so much. The garage called us as they have a customer wanting to buy the courtesy car - rather surprising when they haven't seen it unless it's one they used when waiting for their car to be fixed. Because we had told the garage that we were going away on holiday (we didn't tell them we had cancelled later) they have told us to hang on to it (they were going to bring a different one but I have only just got used to driving this one ) and wait' till we get back' to swap it or give it back, whichever the situation calls for. I have been looking for a replacement car, just a little cheapo one for the while, and today we are going on the rounds of garages to see what we can find, we want another Fiesta like ours, as we don't like this new version much.

On Friday o.h. rang our usual car mechanic to see if he had anything for sale. He asked why and when o.h. explained he said Why hadn't we called him first to look at the car - he thinks he could probably fix our car cheaper, he knows it inside out as he always does the mot and service etc and we would rather have ours back on the road. The value he suggests it was worth before the bump is about £1000 so we will see what the ins. people say and then decide what to do.

I could throttle o.h. for being so careless and causing all this hassle and missed holiday again.

On a brighter note I have been lucky on the lottery. Just over a week ago I won £13.40 on Euromillions then last Saturday I won £25 on the lotto, then another £25 on Wednesday and last night I won £128. As I desperately need some new specs, that will help out a lot so hope we get a car so I can get to the opticians to look at their range as they have 75% off frames at the mo.

Cross your fingers please that we find a cheap runabout to use while our car is being fixed or negotiations done to get something better later on. I so need transport over the next few weeks, I have so much to do and can't do it on the bus!

We are now waiting to hear from the insurance company.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 16 Oct 2013 18:35

G, that one was only to be 25 miles from home lol and still we couldn't manage it. It's rained most of today and I just said to o.h. if we had stuck to our initial plans to travel in our car today we (I) would have had to pack and unpack the car in the rain and it would have been a pain. The woman we were renting from has been really good about us messing her about, and says we can use the property another time so we aren't blacklisted lol

Now we have to help o.h.'s sister and b.i.l. whose little miniature Schnauzer Ruby has been very ill and has to be put to sleep. They drove miles to get her in June and loved her to bits, and it's obvious she wasn't a healthy pup when they got her as she seems to have a problem with her liver, they paid over £800 for her and altho they insured her, it's cost a lot lately to try and get her well. I think they have been ripped off by the breeder but the sadness they are feeling is more awful than the money they have lost.

Uzzi, next year has to be better lol A holiday at home is never relaxing with o.h. but he has a lot of tv progs recorded to keep him quiet and at least I can get out of his way some of the time lol Not sure what will happen re courtesy car if they write ours off so must make the best of it while we can.

Gwen, you haven't had a lot of luck either, have you hon? At least I was lucky with the weather the week I was at Buckingham.

I think I will just stock up with chocolate and hibernate!

Love to all

Glad to hear you are at least mobile again and can get out and about on the nicer days. Some say that a holiday at home is more relaxing, but I dispute that at times it certainly is cheaper mind and as you say if you need a new car you are going to need the money saved from the holiday.

sending you hugs and thoughts xx
