I visited Ironbridge and Bridgnorth when I was in England in 1997. I presume we also went through Telford.

I had the same problem as Rose!!!!! :-(

Going up to the Shrewsbury area many years ago, my sister and I came upon Telford shopping centre. I wanted to find the village - but we failed miserably.
After about 4 attempts - all of which ended up at the shopping centre we plodded on to Much Wenlock.

GiN. The difference with Milton Keynes is that it is designed as a grid. Horizontals (H roads) and Verticals (V roads). And each time they meet it has to be a flyover or roundabout. I always thought it was an amazingly good piece of traffic planning. Must look great from the air.

Want roundabouts, Rose? Try Milton Keynes, lol! :-D :-D

The first time I saw the road sign for Telford was on the way home to Kent from a holiday in Wales, it was also the 2nd , 3rd, and 4th time, as the driver of the car just could not find a way out of the area lol. Not surprising really as I don't think I know of another (relatively small) place that has so many roundabouts.

Remember a thread not so long back about Telford. Where is the centre, someone asked?

They were such lovely towns when I was a boy - Oakengates, Wellington, Dawley, Lawley. Lot of old character was then lost. What a shame they did not develop area like Milton Keynes. Places near Telford are beautiful - Much Wenlock, Bridgnorth, Ironbridge. Lovely living museums.

The centre itself is really only the shopping centre ( which I'm not fond of) and nice park, there is lots going on at the moment as the area by the park is being re-developed, the library has been knocked down and building is going apace, new library, council offices, shops, cinema hotel etc.

Ironbridge is pretty, have only been there once myself lol but it is a nice bus ride, will go again once the hay fever subsides! Newport is a bit further out through some nice country villages has some interesting buildings and is a more old fashioned town, nice canal!

Stayed near Telford, Errol, but what I remember most is Ironbridge Gorge. Wonderful place, and full of living museums. :-)

does anyone else know this place? I met a lovely lady there (nothing untoward) but we got talking about the place. She showed me around and I thought how fab. Anyone else been?
