as someone who worked for many years and in many areas of Royal Mail I can tell you that eventually you just keep your mouth shut when it comes to good ideas.

Tell one person and before you know it, that new great idea is up an running and someone else gets the credit and you sound sour if you say anything about whose idea it was.

And when it came to the annual appraisals, I never wanted a 10 as there was only one way to go from there. Saw it all the time, the mighty falling from grace. Always happy with an 8 or 9. Still worked hard but kept head down. ;-)

T Sun Lol! At least he was honest.

suzanne there is nothing wrong in standing up for yourself as long as you do it assertively and not aggressively. If you can also come up with suggestions on how this could be overcome that would be good too.

Maggie from things you have said you do seem to have a problem. Is it a particular boss/department or is it right across all departments? I am surprised as normally Civil and public services are hot on doing things properly. (Well that is in my experience of both.) :-)

Many years ago my boss took three months off after a heart attack. As his second in command I took over the running of our depot. When it was time for my annual appraisal, where each aspect of the job was given marks out of ten, he said I am confident that you can do my job satisfactorily but I can't give you more than a nine for anything as I don't want to risk you permanently sitting at my desk!

many years ago........

I took three months off work to go on a long holiday.....

Went back and found three new people in the office, all temps.

They were doing MY job!!

The temps were there for another couple of weeks, finishing projects. I thought my boss might say some words of appreciation, because it was obvious that I was a good worker (silly me), but not a word. The week after that I gave my notice. :-D

Same happens to me, Suzanne.
We have a 'personal plan' - which involves my saying what training I want/need, then being told I haven't the time!! :-0

So, when I was off sick with work-related stress (due to workload) someone didn't have a leg to stand on.
Now when 'personal plans' are discussed, I blow my trumpet, point out what the management know perfectly well I can, and do, do, reinforcing that 'X' was my idea/plan - and say my talents aren't being utilised enough :-D
