The dates are variable each year. It is all to do with the wobble of the earth's axis - learning about the concept of the earth wobbling has always fascinated me.

Gosh too early in the morning for calculation - need more coffee to get my brain into gear.

I think the actual day of the Summer Solstice varies by a day or two each year, doesn't it? Last year, it fell on 20th June, my birthday.

Isn't it winter in South America? :-S
I noticed there is a full moon today. You only get a full moon on mid-summers day once every 28 years. ;-)

Dear All

Hello


Across many countries today, the height of summer has been marked by celebrating the longest day of light.


At Stonehenge, over 20,000 people gathered to see the sunrise.


In Sweden, Norway and Denmark midsummer rituals entail bonfires, near a fjord or river whilst in China people dressed in traditional Han costumes.


South American countries as well marked the solstice with various events.


Orginally known as Litha, this time was special to pagan and celtic peoples as there was an abudance of food and drink.


The underlying message of the summer solstice is relevant today but
not really celebrated enough.

May your summer be a contented and peaceful one and enjoy what nature has to offer.
