The platform was destroyed by a gas leak in
July 1988 and is still the worst offshore oilfield
disaster to date for loss of life, 167 died.

Was it that long ago?

Thankfully safety measures and rescue/evacutaion equipment have improved tremendously since then. Piper Alpha did affect OH's decision not to work (or visit) off-shore installations.

I couldn't believe it was that long either Det and as you say a lot has
been learnt over the years but the companies must not get complacent
as we do not want another Piper Alpha. The date was the 6th July if I
remember rightly.

Dear All

Hello

I remember seeing the TV coverage.
It was so horrendous and such a waste of life.

Throughout the 1980's there was a series of accidents at football stadiums, on a
ferry, airplanes and other places.

Most if not all could have been prevented.

Rest in peace to all those who died.

Rembering all those still affected by injuries.

Take gentle care all
Sincere wishes
Elizabeth, EOS
