Lol, Lol & more Lol. KittytheLearnerCook

I make my own fat balls! (much better than shop bought ones, well the birds think so)!
I make them using Beef Dripping (it stays more solid than Lard, tho I have used lard occasionally).
I melt the dripping in a saucepan, let it cool a bit, then add whatever nuts/fruit you've got, I use porridge oats or museli blueberries/raspberries/dried cranberries cut up, chopped up peanuts and sunflower seeds, when it's cooled down enough I spoon the mixture into cardboard loo roll tubes, put these when cool into a freezer bag or plastic container and into the fridge, they keep better this way, before I put them out for the birds I take the cardboard tubes off, the fat balls I put into the peanut feeders, they fit these and I can usually get 2 in a feeder.
Hope this helps.

Aww thanks Shelley Rose

More like fat sausages than balls, but I will definitely have a go later in the week :-D

Oh..............just seen something to cheer me up in the garden!

A blackbird went onto the bird table and grabbed a piece of my homemade date and walnut loaf which he seemed to be enjoying...........birds usually reject my offerings

i used the old beef dripping from the chip pan
and the left over breakfast cereal and seeds

the birds love it and costs me nothing

mind the butler made some soup and
you could stand a spoon up in it
i put it out for the foxes and the wood pidgeons ate it
they where so fat they couldnt fly for hours
it was so funny to see :-D :-D

Renes,
If you use kitchen rolls, you can cut them in half and use them as well.

YAAAAYYYYYY................they worked!!!!!

I am so happy I could sing a song of sixpence :-D :-D :-D

The birds loved them and apart from the bits that fell out and melted on the hot patio, they were a success *dances round thread*
