Silly Sausage

Silly Sausage Report 4 Jul 2013 13:35

I can see some aspects of the OP referr to me but not all ;-)

Renes

Renes Report 4 Jul 2013 13:01

My brothers used to "play act " that poem to frighten us - their 5 little sisters ....

nasty boys .....

Thinking on .... RR

Of course it would be easy for a troll to RRd their own post by

Opening up a free account ... New name - although they cannot post on board ...

They can RR ...

So .. A troll could RR in their alias .....

Simples

I also think ...a troll like tendency ... "could be" the continue reporting of how many views / how many posts ..... on their threads ......

as someone once said ..

If one makes a post .. with receives little or no interest .. you simply delete it

end of !

Words of wisdom from an old children's poem ;-)

The Spider and the Fly by Mary Howitt (1799-1888)

Will you walk into my parlour?" said the Spider to the Fly,
'Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I've a many curious things to shew when you are there."
Oh no, no," said the little Fly, "to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair can ne'er come down again."

"I'm sure you must be weary, dear, with soaring up so high;
Will you rest upon my little bed?" said the Spider to the Fly.
"There are pretty curtains drawn around; the sheets are fine and thin,
And if you like to rest awhile, I'll snugly tuck you in!"
Oh no, no," said the little Fly, "for I've often heard it said,
They never, never wake again, who sleep upon your bed!"

Said the cunning Spider to the Fly, " Dear friend what can I do,
To prove the warm affection I've always felt for you?
I have within my pantry, good store of all that's nice;
I'm sure you're very welcome -- will you please to take a slice?"
"Oh no, no," said the little Fly, "kind Sir, that cannot be,
I've heard what's in your pantry, and I do not wish to see!"

"Sweet creature!" said the Spider, "you're witty and you're wise,
How handsome are your gauzy wings, how brilliant are your eyes!
I've a little looking-glass upon my parlour shelf,
If you'll step in one moment, dear, you shall behold yourself."
"I thank you, gentle sir," she said, "for what you 're pleased to say,
And bidding you good morning now, I'll call another day."

The Spider turned him round about, and went into his den,
For well he knew the silly Fly would soon come back again:
So he wove a subtle web, in a little corner sly,
And set his table ready, to dine upon the Fly.
Then he came out to his door again, and merrily did sing,
"Come hither, hither, pretty Fly, with the pearl and silver wing;
Your robes are green and purple -- there's a crest upon your head;
Your eyes are like the diamond bright, but mine are dull as lead!"

Alas, alas! how very soon this silly little Fly,
Hearing his wily, flattering words, came slowly flitting by;
With buzzing wings she hung aloft, then near and nearer drew,
Thinking only of her brilliant eyes, and green and purple hue --
Thinking only of her crested head -- poor foolish thing! At last,
Up jumped the cunning Spider, and fiercely held her fast.
He dragged her up his winding stair, into his dismal den,
Within his little parlour -- but she ne'er came out again!

And now dear little children, who may this story read,
To idle, silly flattering words, I pray you ne'er give heed:
Unto an evil counsellor, close heart and ear and eye,
And take a lesson from this tale, of the Spider and the Fly.

Good sense has prevailed.

Jonesey's Opening Post is back up :-D

TROLL SPOTTING. Frustration, paranoia, web weaving, knitting ;-)

(Edit 17 July 1035) Dear Doctor. I am very concerned about spotting and eliminating trolls from social networking boards. Can you help me?

Doctor. Yes. Get off your computer, open your window and smile and shout good morning to the first person passing. Otherwise you will get old before your time, tetchy and your face gets wrinkled prematurely.

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 4 Jul 2013 11:48

I think you can Report your own post, the report button appears on each post, that said while following this thread I am reminded of watching a spider weaving a web and my advice is that when weaving your web be careful you do not become entangled in it as you will become a victim of your own making ;-)

TheBlackKnight

TheBlackKnight Report 4 Jul 2013 11:42

One member on here did own up to RR'ing his/her own post just a while back to get a reaction.

Renes

Renes Report 4 Jul 2013 11:37

Good to see ......

Intriguingly

I have read from a posting on this thread that there may actually be an 8th sin namely

......... that trolls are so obsessed with their own self importance that they will do anything to keep the kettle on the boil, and if the kettle goes of the boil, one way to bring the kettle back to boiling point is to report the thread as that is sure to wind people up.

could that happen on here, it is possible to RRd your own post ?

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 4 Jul 2013 11:19

Ridiculous that the post was reported. How can you have a discussion about anything when OP has been zapped. And it usually happens in evenings - particularly Fridays.

Good post, though a bit long and academic for simple me. But nothing to upset anyone. Unless............. :-0 :-0

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 4 Jul 2013 11:18

Hooray for commonsense - Jonesey's excellent post has been reinstated :-)

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 4 Jul 2013 11:09

It's been reinstated! Now I can see what it said and what this thread is all about.

TheBlackKnight

TheBlackKnight Report 4 Jul 2013 10:43

I think it's obvious that the RR button is rarely used for it's proper intendended purpose lately, maybe GR should do something about it. What do you think?

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 4 Jul 2013 10:42

A troll with a conscience - pigs might fly :-D :-D :-D

Graham

Graham Report 4 Jul 2013 10:31

I think it was obvious that somebody was going to take offence. Whoever that somebody was must have thought that the thread referred to them. So who has the guilty conscience?

Renes

Renes Report 4 Jul 2013 10:26

Jonesey ..

I agree with Cynthia ... This nonsense has to stop ... total abuse of the RRd facility

Cannot beleve a Jonesey thread has been RRd .....

I was suprised when Joys threads on suggestions .. was RRd and the thread subsequently removed ..last week .(although now reinstated by Phil)

this all beggars belief

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 4 Jul 2013 10:16

there certainly will be

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 4 Jul 2013 10:00

AnnC That db thread reversal of decision was not explained. But seems to have been a watershed. Since then, anything that could possibly cause trouble or offence to anyone seems to have been reported and removed from site.

And for a few days many have said how lovely site is. Some might call it a bit bland.

Be interesting to see how GR review these two Opening Posts. Mine doesn't matter one way or another, but I suspect there will be a hue and cry down to Genes Towers if Jonesey's is zapped.

TheBlackKnight

TheBlackKnight Report 4 Jul 2013 09:57

They have reinstated some of mine on other threads before now. I think the left hand don't know what the right hand is doing anymore.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 4 Jul 2013 09:52

but they do change it - remember that contentious thred using the offensive term DB a week or so back? They reinstated that, it was reported again and they removed it

TheBlackKnight

TheBlackKnight Report 4 Jul 2013 09:50

I got RR'd again just the other day for just asking a question. Told GR I had not broken any T&C's & they basically said tough that was our decision & we never change it. So don't hold your breath if somebody has had a bad day.
