Jax

I got very confused why there were two threads, why they were on chat, and whether all this info had already been found. Ah, well. Nice when someone is really new though. Makes us all feel that we actually know something about genealogy after all :-) :-)

John

Marina has 7 posts to her name.....6 on this thread and 1 on a new thread she started today

She probably does not know how to find this one again, hence the new thread

Thanks Cynthia. Not a lot seem to be reading any threads today anyway. Very quiet day, it seems. But a couple of recent comments on this Marina thread, so I hope one of her friends tells her we are still thinking of her :-)

John, it may be that Marina won't see your comments. This is an old thread and Reggie has put the link to the new thread Marina has just started.

Marina.

Notice your grandfather has an aunt who was living with his parents in 1911 census - Eliza Vinyard.

She married Alfred Toms in Leicester in 1920 and they had two sons - Alfred who died as an infant and Horace. Might they have taken children in after Lucy died?.

Or perhaps there was an aunt or uncle on grandmother Lucy's side?

Edit. Looks like your great grandfather Alfred VINYARD married secondly to Ellen STANNARD in 1928 in Ipswich.

Haven't got any records much to search at present, Marina. But an awful lot of family for you to search for that other posters have unearthed.

Two thoughts:

1. Army records for WW1. Records for oldest boy may throw up interesting facts about family. Someone will have access via A....y (other products are available)
2. Local records of what happened to your father after your grandma Lucy died. Perhaps a short letter to the local Records Office in Ipswich may provide you with information about what happened to the various orphans. No way could your grandfather have coped without a second marriage or domestic help. It was an absolutely total tragedy if the mother died early in those days usually.

It looks like you will discover many cousins in the Ipswich area. Possibly even an uncle or aunt still living that you know nothing about. Should be an interesting time for you, Marina. :-) :-)

Ann

There is no point posting on living relatives board when Marina has already been given info on how to find relations

jax

jax Report 6 Jul 2013 20:01

Marina
It is very unlikely that anyone related will see this post in the near future, so it would be advisable for you to try and contact anyone who has this family in their tree

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 6 Jul 2013 20:00

well if you think they may still be living, then post on "Find Living Ancestors" board - but also look in "Search" top right hand corner - Jax says there are connections - so if you do it then you can contact the tree owner
