A tv licence is issued to an address not a person.

So in theory if in a care home you should be covered by any TV licence issued to that premises for any TVs in communal areas.

Unless age for TV licence has changed it is 75 my husband got it 2 yrs ago

In Leeds if anyone goes in Sheltered Housing with a warden.

People only £5 a year for a tv licence.

If you are in a care home and have a tv in your room you still have to have a license but it is much cheaper (3 years ago was £7.50).

No idea what the fuss is about.
Yes you have to be over 80 to qualify.

Maybe people think we shouldn't have anything free.

If I live to over 80 more than likely be in a care home.


We have a chap in the Yorkshire tv region that is 110 yrs old..

What is this fuss about the Free TV Licence, you have to be over 80 don't you to get that??

Thats what I can't understand,

My income is a lot less than £16,190 and I pay more than 10% of my yearly income on Gas/Electric.
I have physical disability and can only walk max 25yrds.

I will look at changing suppliers.

Oh yes I know it's blasted Clegg and his cohorts.

I am a lot worse off now never mind 2015.

There are 4 pensioner households in 4 flats including myself.

The other 3 pensioners do not pay Rent and Council Tax.Making them better off by nearly £6,000 a year than I am now.

SoI am going to buy a 5 mperson tent with all the camping gear I need and if I am still around I will move into the tent on a farm in North Yorkshire.

Better than going in the workhouse cos that's where we are heading for those over 66yrs old that will be worse off.

I don't get free tv licence and have to pay full amount for everthing except my bus pass and the amount of times I use a bus a week is maybe once just to go see a friend where I lived.

This is part of a stitch-up instigated by Clegg & Co.
The idea is that after Jun 2015 only pensioners getting pension credit will receive winter heating allowance (*) , free TV licence, bus pass etc.

As you observe the effect may well be that those on typical pensions could be lot worse off than another OAP receiving pension credit.

The Labour Party have similar ideas but are not considering using pension credit (yes/no) as the criteria.

DLA is being replaced with PIP and qualifying for the higher level much harder to achieve e.g. the walking distance has been cut from 60m to 30m.

(*) overseas heating benefit will depend on living in a cold region. The definition of a cold region is somewhere with an average winter temperature colder than Cornwall. Shuts out the C.I., Andalucia, the Balearics, the Dordogne and Lombardy for starters. OTOH Normandy will qualify.

I am with British gas and it said:

Each company has its own set of qualifying conditions.

Customer household has an annual income of less than £16,190 and the account holder is living with a mental or physical disability or illness, or there is an element of vulnerability in the home, e.g

1.Households with children aged 5 years or under.
2.Account holder (or partner) aged 62 or over.


OR
Customer household has an annual income of less than £16,190[2] and spends 10% or more of their household annual income on fuel for adequate heating (usually 21 degrees for the main living room, and 18 degrees for other occupied rooms).

So with a different supplier you could qualify :-S

I received a letter on Saturday telling me that from the 1st September 2013 that the Spreading Warmth Tariff that I get a discount every quarter for both Gas and Electric is being stopped.

And a new Tariff is starting called Warm Home Discount which I have just rung the company(NPOWER) about to see if I am eligible for this new tariff.

According to the woman I spoke to she told me if I was in receipt of Pension Credit,Employment Support Allowance,Income Support that I would get the New tariff which there is a discount of £135 of the electric bill.

I told her I was registered Disabled getting DLA.

No good as even with DLA I still have to be claiming Pension Credit to get the Discount.

Seemingly the government has told the power supply companies that the Old Spreading Warmth tariff has got to be withdrawn and bring in the Warm Home Discount.

So in September I will be paying the full amount for Electric and Gas with no discount and will have to pay as much as the Well Off people.

Talk about being penalised for paying full stamp all my working life.

Has anyone else got a letter from their Power company saying all this info..???
