It may be that their email provider or software on their computer is blocking it. Or it may be that the video file is so huge.
I often find that with large files such as vidoes it is better to save the file using cloud storage and then giving them the link.

Perhaps one of the easiest ways to do it is to open a gmail account and then use the free online storage that comes with it.
Also check whether your internet provider includes free storage.
There are loads and loads of other ones - I just tend to prefer gmail for its simplicity.

There is a cloud service called drop box. It is free for 5 GB of data.
Download and install it.
( http://www.dropbox.com in case you hadn't guessed )
Dropbox will now appear as a drive on your desktop.

If you now install dropbox on other computers u may have, smartphone etc they will all be able to see the files in the dropbox which is in the "cloud" not yr local computer.
Cool, handy backup and no need to go on the tube with a laptop 'cos yr files r already there ...

Now the cool bit for sharing stuff.
You can create folders in the dropbox in exactly the same way as any other drive.
For instance create a folder called FamilyVids (or any other name u like).
These folders can be with/without passwords and read only or modifable.
Copy n paste or drag the video file into FamilyVids.
Now all u have to do is to send the link to the other person and they can pick up the file. They must of course have dropbox installed.
Welcome to the cloud.

No mucking about with email. Many systems block large attachments such as videos anyway as Error says.

Google, Microsoft and others provide similar service but Dropbox is easiest to use and runs on any platform.

enjoy

Thanks for the name mistake Rollo lol

Dropbox can sometimes screw your computer - happened on a couple of machines I was working on recently.
However, it is fairly good as Rollo says.
But, I would rather use a total cloud based system rather than something that involves downloading something onto my desktop, hence the suggestion to use total cloud services like gmail which involves no download, no install, nothing changing anything on your compjuter.

The trouble with gmail and its cloud is that everything in it is copied to the NSA and GCHQ. The metadata is kept permanently and the content dumped after 30-90 days.
If you are happy with this go ahead.

fwiw never mid drives and such I am currently using a virtual computer somewhere in "the cloud" running linux mint. It is as quick as the real deal but the virtual keyboard is config for USA which is a bit of a pain.

evenin' all

eRRolSheep Report 10 Jul 2013 19:42

Rollo do you have something to hide?
Do you really think that every single thing that is stored on things like gmail is analysed - even electronically?
A bit of paranoia methinks lol

Rollo the Paranoid?

Of course, they would never check sites like Dropbox would they.

lmao

THIS IS A GENEALOGY SITE NOT AN IT FORUM

Can I just say, I am a trainee genealogist.
This is why I use this site.
I am no way a computer expert.
Because I am using a site like this I sometime do need IT help.
If I was a computer expert I would use a techie site and would undertand what they are wittering on about.
But I am not.
I do ask for help on here like many others and I get that help from some :-)
I cannot understand some of the jargon that is posted on here (I do not mean this in a negative way what so ever)
Basic and and easy computer jargon is what some of us need on here and the understanding that we are all not techies with computer degree's.

Errol has helped me in the past and have to say how things are explained are easy, understandable and most of all at my pace/speed, which to me is so helpful
:-D

Errol please do not get too big headed but thank you for all your help and here is to others reading this and maybe helping them out in the way they can understand.
