I collect crystal ornaments I love the way they sparkle :-D

Mind you, funds mean I only have a few, but they are precious to me.

I don't really understand collecting but I do have far too many books.

*eyes the cookbooks*

My Mum collected owls, I kept so many of her treasures in my home until she had died in case she ever remembered she had any of them, so I could truthfully say I was looking after them for her................Alzheimer's didn't allow that to happen.

After her death, the family came round and took whatever items meant something special to them, the rest went to the Alzheimer's Society charity shop to try and raise funds to help current and future sufferers of this evil disease.

Some good has to come out of so much hurt and hopefully the money they raised will help one day.

My Dad was a gamekeeper for many years and they had collections of pictures and ornaments related to that. My son-in-law has similar interests and has most of them displayed in their home.

My sister and I have a couple of items too.............my favourites are his flatcap, worn through from use and his thumbstick, worn smooth from use, but priceless to me :-)

Lol are you two still talking ?

I collect elephants, have lots but mostly packed away and I have clothes and such with them on too. When I visit my cousin she has a couple for me and also spotted some curtains with elephants on in a charity shop so bought them for me too. Can't wait to see them and bring them home.

I would just hang on to the clowns and cloths for a while and you might get inspiration on what to do with them, don't make sudden decisions.

My friend who lives in Germany inherited her aunt's collection of Buddhas. She has them in her apartment here in Norwich which she is visiting at present. There must be about 100 or more and they are all sitting on her window ledges, top of her wardrobe (arranged nicely) and some on the balcony too. What with those and all the other things she has put in the flat, I wouldn't want to be her cleaner. They are fascinating tho (the Buddhas not the cleaners)

That elephant is in the sitting room of Fred's mate Ken.

He loves elephants and I could never have afforded to buy him a present like that although he deserves it if anybody does.

Hi Uzzi.......if you don't want them I'm sure charity shops would be only too pleased to sell them on.

Feel sure folk who do collect the same would love to give them a good home :-)xx

Nolls from Harrogate

Nolls from Harrogate Report 20 Jul 2013 20:37

Like you Uzziln I ended up with so many collectables from 2 aunts MIL my mum / grandma /friends of mum / daughter / had the stuff for years of course collection enlarged by me with china and crystal bells / ducks / pictures (enough to fill The Royal Academy - not that they are worth much) tortoises then about a year ago decided enough is enough so got all into boxes and was going to take to auctions (had asked family... nobody wanted any) but like good ideas it's put aside till later then about a month ago one son who lives up North came and was aghast "your not throwing that out are you" :-| result he and wife are away with most of the boxes I hate to think he is carrying on the family tradition of being a hoarder...they will be sorry HA! :-D

I used to collect elephants years ago and mother bought me a suburb one for me (that Sharron now has) but decided to keep it herself and also collect.them. I stopped collecting elephants, not that stopped Mum buying them for me and keeping them.

I also collect fridge magnets of places that I have been, mother found this out once when she saw my collection. after unpacking Mums stuff I have more than double my collection.
She saw my animal collection by Leonardo so she has a few of them, I sold mine years ago, Mine were birds so we have many birds of other types Marble, jade and wood.

I collect dragons and sadly I never told her because I wanted something for just me. So no dragons ....sobs ..well 2 Chinese ones

Mum on her own collected clowns ..no that isn´t the 2nd husband sort but genuine collectors clowns of which there are a few, she also collected other things... LIke table cloths ..I have never seen so many in 1 place as I have now. It´s scarey how many table clothes 1 person can have. these are not your white function table cloths.

I am not sure what to do with them all. The clowns or the cloths.

Now am I sure whether this thread is about what do you collect ..can I exchange elephants, table cloths, clowns for dragons
or just a general moan about people who collect and leave others to get rid !

Damn I must will my dragons to somebody to sort out ...
