If you're still awake, DIZZ, read for a while. It distracts your mind, stopping you from worrying about not sleeping.

Dizzi, you probably won't see this until tomorrow, but Sue is right.

Lie still, relax and stop trying to go to sleep. It doesn't matter if you don't so long as your body is resting.

Sue In Yorkshire. Report 28 Jul 2013 17:30

Dizzi you need to turn your lappy off at least an hour before bed time.

Then set yourself a bedtime say half an hour after the lappy of.

Go to bed and clear your mind of all the things going on in it.
(Know you worry over things)

Just relax and listen to either the radio (soothing music or talking book like Chris suggests.

But just relax and don't look at a clock or any time piece.

Your body clock needs re=training to go to bed at a certain time.
not neccesary to sleep but relax.

Lavender pillow would help.

Bet you can't be in bed by 11pm tonight and lay and think of nothing.

I do the same as Geordie, and it usually works. I think the main thing is not to worry about it and, if you can, have a nap during the day.

My aunt, in her 80's, used to keep busy so that she wouldn't go to sleep during the day. I told her not to be so daft! She was alone, nobody would know, so if she felt tired sit down and snooze. Even half-an-hour can work wonders.

Dizzi - Brenda's post reminded me - lettuce sandwich is supposed to help.

A few drops of lavender oil on your pillow. Stop thinking of sleep - sounds daft I know - take a book/magazine to bed. Put a talking book on. It has worked for me.

My son has bad insomnia since a teenager now it is aggravated by pain wakening him - he will go days with only an hour or two and then crash for 20-24 hours - nothing would waken him.

I find that my overactive mind can keep me awake. Sounds quirky, but I go through things alphabetically if I can't sleep.
Could be anything:- countries(3 for each letter), placenames, words ending in ing or ion - the list is endless. I've rarely got to the end of the alphabet! :-)

Marie Celeste that sounds like a very good idea I keep looking at clock and as you say keep thinking I only have a couple of hours till I get up etc. might just try it or else will be wandering round looking for a clock :-D
Hope you got off Dizzi try Brenda's suggestion lettuce has got all what she says .... might give you the runs though if you eat too much :-D
