Poor you Huia, hope you feel lots better soon, you are doing the right thing, resting and taking care of yourself, and not passing your bugs to others especially your o.h. and the others in the home.

Coincidence that our parents were close in ages, altho Mum wasn't born till 1916. Mine were late starters with the breeding tho lol

Take care and get well soon

At least my OH wont catch it from me. I haven't visited him this week and might not visit until late next week if this doesn't clear up soon.

Thanks John. I feel I am getting slowly better each day, probably because in the early stages I drank lots of water and slept most of the day! At present I am drinking a cup of chicken noodle soup and will follow that with a eucalytptus inhalant before going to bed, in the hopes of clearing up my throat and nose. Quite a few years since I have felt so rotten and I no longer have my OH here to nurse me. :-(

Liz, my dad would have been 104 on the 6th Sept, and my mum 103 on the 24th. There are/were quite a few birthdays in Sept. Dad's dad on the 26th if I remember rightly (not thinking too well at present as I have had a very nasty cold for the last 5 days. Hopefully the coughing and nose-blowing will ease up quite a bit now).

I am feeling a bit 'stir crazy' as I have stayed home since I came down with the cold but I think I will go to town to do a little shopping tomorrow. I just hope it doesn't rain too hard.

Hello Elizabeth and John.

It sounds like you owe a lot, not only to your lovely Dad, but your Dad's Dad also, Liz. :-)

What a brave man to suffer those wounds. It sounds like he left a lovely legacy, despite the pain he continually suffered. I expect your Dad was as proud of his Dad as you are of yours.

What a priviledge to be their daughter and granddaughter :-)

Oh that's lovely John, I only had one Grandmother, Dad's Mum, and she was a strange lady, didn't get on with many people and I hardly knew her because we lived so far away. Her fault as Dad took my Mum back to his village to live when they got married soon after meeting and she never made Mum welcome, in fact she was very unkind to her so they moved back to Mum's home city, Norwich. Seems Gran was like that with all the daughter in laws.

I will be staying with my cousin who is 76 so she knows all the village and we go to the cemetery and put flowers on the graves of our ancestors.

I never knew Dad's Dad as he died years before I was born, of shrapnel left in his head after the first World War. Poor man was plagued by headaches and died in agony when a piece of the shrapnel moved. Apparently he was a lovely man.

Thanks Elizabethxx

What a lovely post, Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond. How nice to travel round the places he knew so well. You are thinking of him, no doubt he is still thinking of you.

I am so glad you posted this. I never forget June 8th - my grandmother's birthday. And she was born in 1888. But I knew her so well, and loved her so much :-) :-)

who would be 103 today if he was still around.

I bet he would still be upright and wear his tie, he was Army through and through, no slouching or looking scruffy for him.

Thinking of you Dad, will be on your home turf soon with a bit of luck - taking another look at the cottage you grew up in and the area you played in as a boy.

Wish I could talk to you about all I have found out on the family tree.

love
