If you want to post items surface mail, the date for some far-flung places is fast approaching.

Be warned ...........................

we here do not like it when you obey the "post by dates", especially for cards.

How would you like to get Christmas cards by the middle or end of October???

Yes ............. that really is what happens!

Your surface mail is sent by airmail!

Nor am I sure what Spain does as I sent a letter express and it arrived a week later

No Regular sea voyages to Australia, either. All my mail from the UK, official or otherwise, comes via airmail.

Too late to send your Christmas card by surface mail, Allan. Will have to find another way :-S

Happy Christmas, anyway :-D Will pop out next week and post your card for Christmas 2014 ;-)

Interesting replies... Thank you.

I thought I might get organised and send overseas cards earlier this year instead of paying the high postage charges for airmail in early December....Not so sure now.

Does this mean that lower-cost postage now will still see cards etc. sent airmail then?

Bewildered.

yes, it does!

we begin to get Xmas cards and calendars from the UK in mid-October.

I think the first week in October was the earliest ever!

It is a long time since we got presents from the UK, calendars are what most people send us. So I cannot say how long a parcel would take to get here.

I'd be VERY tempted to put your lower-cost postage cards in the mail as late as mid-November!

It doesn't matter for us, and I suspect a lot of other countries as well, as we only have First Class Mail. They did away with the lower post many years ago.

This means, I think, that your lower-cost items get put in with our First Class mail once it enters this country anyway.
