Log out of Ebay... My laptop is in the menders and at moment using son's one . Went into Ebay to buy something and have come out of it but cannot find how to completely logout and don't want to leave it open for all and sundry to get into at the moment every time I go into it I go straight into my account etc. ...am I being paranoid :-S

Hi Nolls, on the home page where it greets you with your name, top left hand corner, if you hover the mouse over it, it has a drop down, which says sign out, click on that.

Warning

If you have allowed Firefox or whatever to save the password on the machine at the shop then anybody with access to that machine can login using the saved password irrespective of the fact that you have logged out on another machine.

If that is your case change the password pdq.

Thanks Rollo that's what I was worried about and they have had the machine for nearly a fortnight hope to get it back tomorrow and will change p/w immediately

you don't need the machine at the shop to change the password

login to ebay from any machine - library, net cafe will do - and change the password - do not allow it to be saved
it will then not be possible to login from the machine at the shop
it is even more important to do the same thing for PayPal is the password has been saved !

there is no reason in the universe why a shop would need 2 weeks to fix a computer

What was wrong that they needed it for that long.

I never take mine to any of these 'shops', even the big stores ones. For some reason I just do not like the idea of someone rifling through my files.... And I trust no-one!

Found a man who comes to my house and repairs it on the spot. Except my little notebook. He said to me 'have you have a good time with this' Yes I said, good cos it is unrepairable.... Luckily I backup all my files to an external hardrive.

To be honest Dazed I don't really know all I know it was sent to their workshop it's with the big firm that specialises in comps P* W**** and was not sure where to take it to but must admit it's taking a long time to come back and going to ring them now. Thanks for reminding me.
Rollo was wondering about that so at the moment am on son's laptop so will try and go in and change p/w now though as they have had it for days now I suppose it's a bit like bolting the door after the horse has gone!

It may be worth saying that apart from passwords there can be other problems when sending in computers esp laptops for repairs to the larger stores and even some smaller ones.

If the problems are considered to be anything to do with the OS , software installed then there is a very marked tendency to just reinstall the OS from the hidden recovery folder. That will result in a working computer but all the data will have been wooshed. If there is no backup too bad. Even then all the apps would have to be installed again.

Another problem is the some techies consider it fair game to copy any installed music & media and even worse all photos which you may have taken with yr camera or phone. These have a habit of reappearing on web sites.

Another problem is that quite often they lose the laptop never to be seen again ...
