Hi Ann.
We all look forward to a better year in 2014.
Sorry to hear of your loss Hortensis..lost mine 2 years ago and it does take strength and determination to make a life for yourself again.
I haven't had a brilliant year either..great granddaughter with meningitis last winter...she's lovely now.....and at the moment baby gt granddaughter fighting for her life with a very rare lung disease they can't understand....that is my big worry!

I've had an infestation of fleas ...don't have an animal but do help a blind chap who has a diabetic dog and must have caught them from there......good job my shower was working...was washing my hair twice a day with nit shampoo as I was itchy.
Spent a fortune on sprays ,then flea bombs...one set off the smoke alarm.
Then I got breathless through all the chemicals and had to go to the doc who put me on steroids and inhaler....didnt finish there...had to get council in to go round house with his spray. Had him back yesterday as didnt think they'd all gone.....never want them again!,Cost me over £100.

Thought you might have a laugh at picturing me running round looking for fleas ..which is virtually impossible as so small but believe me,they like my blood!

Yes...I too want a better 2014 ,for myself and everyone else!!

I will add my condolences too to you Hortensis on the death of your beloved husband. I hope for you in 2014 that things will truly start to feel better.

We started the year well with our Gt Grandson being born in July but are ending the year in not so good circumstances in the family. I don't intend going into details but I don't foresee 2014 being a particularly good one for us. But we will survive (I hope) as most do. And hope that friendships on here continue to boost my spirit. :-)

My sincere condolences on the sad loss of your husband Hortensis, you are going through your year of 'firsts' and it will be difficult, let your happier memories comfort you and don't be afraid to ask people for support. We are always around on here if you need a shoulder or an ear.

Like your idea of the bonfire with 2013 on top lol

thanks Paula - the bucket incident was better than I imagined actually - amazing how you can cope when you have to!!

Hortensis - deepest sympathies on the death of your lovely husband - know what you're going through - lost mine eleven years ago last month - he was only 67 - believe me though, it does get better in time and you can remember them without collapsing in tears - keep a smile on your face when you're out and about otherwise people will likely ignore you and you need to keep your friends - they'll all understand I'm sure - mine have been a great support to me, and GR has helped quite a lot too

I hope the New Year will be better for you Ann, I had a year like this
some years ago, looking back I honestly wonder how I got through it, but the human spirit is strong and somehow we manage to survive.

For all of you who have had a tough time this year, things can only get better.

The thought of you washing from the bucket made me smile <3

I agree, 2013 is a year i wil never forget. My lovely husband died early in the year though we thought he would get better. I think in our minds we should all imagine that instead of poor old Guy Fawkes up on top of the bonfire, there is a figure with a sign around its neck with 2013 written in large numbers.

Love and best wishes to all of you who are suffering loss or struggling with rellies or poor health.

Lost emoticoms again!!!

Yes well 2013 wasnt as bad as 2012 or 2003, however we still have had our fair share. Oh was paid off in mar for 3 months just before my brothers wedding so our financial situation was dire. even though he is back working our 2 cars needed so much work we still have the bills to pay.

One sometimes wonders when it will end and is it only us that continually have these problems whereas there are others i know and nothing ever goes wrong for them.

I wouldnt wish anything on anyone but just sometimes i wish it wasnt us.

I hope ann you get your heating sorted quickly, such a nuisance and an expense you can do without.

I also had other things going on which were horrendous and would like to forget so wont be mentioning those at all.

So yes come the 31st dec ,2013 is being booted out the door with a size 12 never to come back!!

lets hope for all of us that have had difficulties that maybe, just maybe 2014 will be an improvement for everyone.

We've had a horrible twelve months (at least!).

I've talked a bit here about OH getting sick & the flood in the house, but there was lots more, from trivial to huge, appliances blowing up to friends & relatives dying.

I'm looking forward to 2014, hopefully it will be better.

Wishing all of you a better, brighter & happier 2014 (a bit soon for New Year greetings, but I'm getting in early).

:-D

Poor you, Ann, hope you can get the new boiler installed asap and be nice and warm (and clean) again. Good thing you have the gas fires.

Ours has been a difficult year for many reasons, but seems to be looking up, touch wood lol!

My son at last has a job, starting tomorrow, I have won several small amounts on lottery etc amounting to just over £200 so can get my new specs at last and the car we found to replace the one o.h. reversed into a tree and wrote off, seems to be a good 'un, same model and colour as the dead one but a year younger (2002) and with very low mileage, (in for a service and cambelt change tomorrow pm) and mechanic says it's a bargain. No need for o.h. to dig into his savings and the insurance money should pay for the car, service and mot at the end of the month too so very little loss financially.

Also my son moved his gf and her little boy into his flat in Sept and that seems to be going well, little lad is happier and better cared for at his new school so hoping everything continues to go on track now.

Take care everyone

Lol Ann love to have been a fly on the wall.

Are there any grants around for boilers? I am sure I saw something the other day.

I hope 2014 is a better one for you.

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 4 Nov 2013 17:04

Can you get a grant?? Here, the Scottish Government is on an "energy saving spree" and grants are available for all sorts - boilers, solar panels, insulation etc. --- IF you're eligible.

Daughter has had an awful year too Lots of problems with her stepsons mum and social services stepping in and for a long time being manipulated by the mum till finally ,we hope, got her measure.ITs still ongoing

Thought thing were calming down but NOPE the storm brought down or damaged 18 roof tiles They can be fixed but her car that was sitting on the hard standing got its bonnet damaged by the debris and has to have a new bonnet. Both are insurance jobs but she has a £450 excess on her car insurance and the premium will go up .

Its a Audi sporty type car so wasnt cheep to insure anyway .

She does wonder why it seems to happen to her all the time :-(
