I thought the question was about "black light!

we used a ultra violet light to check for fuel/oil leaks on our engines at work.......an additive flouresces (glows)when hit by "black light"!

but must agree light is only visible when it illuminates something, as errol says, any impedimenta floating around!!

Another quaint thing I don't know the answer to is:
If December 21st has the shortest daylight hours, why is that not the year end and designated December 31st?
Something to do with the Gregorian calendar?
