Thank you Elizabeth for your good wishes and 'hello'. I sometimes find it hard to believe that a) I've been married SO long and b) that I am SO old!!!!! Our two 'children' are lovely adults, and in addition we have three wonderful grandchildren, two girls and a boy (aged 13, 10 and 6) They are gorgeous, we have been very lucky.

Dear Magpie

I don't think we have spoken as it were but hello to you.

Thank you for adding your memories.
Its always good when people add their own recollections of a day or an event.

So it will be your golden wedding anniversary.
Many congratulations to you and your husband. :-)

I was one day short of my 22nd birthday, OH (aged 24) was in the Fleet air arm and we were living in a furnished flat in Cornwall with our son who was a month old! We watched it on a rather ancient TV as money was very tight! Our son is now 49, his sister 45!! We're clearly many moons older now, but still together and about to celebrate our 50th (!!) wedding anniversary next Saturday!! A medal perhaps - his and hers!!!!!

My Dad was a bank manager in the City. He took me with him that day and we watched the procession go by along Cannon Street.

I think it was a Saturday. M.

Dear All

Hello

In 1965, Sir Winston Churchill passed away.

News of his death was announced on the BBC and Radio and TV programmes were cancelled so tributes could be made.

Within an hour, crowds began to gather near his home to pay homage
to Britain's greatest wartime leader.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During the three days lying-in-state at Westminster Hall, over 300,000
people filed passed by as a sign of respect.

On 30 January 1965, thousands of people lined the streets to see the funeral procession make its way through central London and then to St Pauls Cathedral, where the service was held.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sir Winston became prime minister in May 1940.

His ceaseless energy, unflinching determination to beat the enemy and
an ability to make great speeches, inspired the entire nation and eventually helped win the war.

After the general election in 1945, a labour goverment was elected but
Sir Winston returned to power in 1951.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Take gentle care
Sincere wishes
Elizabeth,
xx
