What a relief, but we still need to keep you in our thoughts for the next couple of days :-)

Husband had one of "those" moments in the night. No not one of "Those".

Honestly, you lot !!!

He is outside right now trying to lift some of the patio slabs. He remembered that when we had it laid nearly thirty years ago we had drainage put in so it soaked away next to the house and onto the road. Not too sure how it works but in the olden days after heavy rain, we often had people telling us the water main had burst outside and we had to tell them it was the soak away.

Not much in the way of rain overnight but the wind is getting up again now. Have decided not to leave for to go back home to Somerset for a few days. Son in law is away for a couple of days and need to be here in case daughter and grand daughter need help.

Hope everyone is OK, especially Jude.

TBH I was wondering if it would have been possible to dig a drainage channel from the patio to lower ground, but even lifting the paving slab could help.

The TV forecasters are thinking that the weather will be more gentle next week – lets hope that their predictions are right and you can go to Somerset without having to worry.

What a relief for you, thank goodness, where did it all go ?

We know the house in Somerset is OK and strangely although our son was in a panic about the brook at the end of the road flooding last year, it has stayed fairly low this year.

I think there was a big clearance operation last Spring and it has flowed much easier since. A couple of houses at the bottom end of the lane were flooded a year or two back but they seem to be fine at the moment. We are much higher than them.

Apart from probably giving Himself another Hernia, hubby seems to have found some drainage pipes under the patio. Fingers crossed.

I have to work for a couple more days this week up here, half term next week, so will leave daughter and son in law to it ( he is a big boy now !!! Just seems to forget he is and let's us do everything for him ) and go back home for a few days.

At least, as Himself took the TV aerial down earlier in the week, we don't have to put up with that awful noise any more. It was keeping everyone awake at night with the wind howling through it. It seems to work just as well in the loft.

my son has a week's leave this week - weather not nice, but as he's a train driver for First Great Western, Swansea to Paddington I'm rather pleased

Hi rang Aunty in East sussex she can only go one way out of village ,Mum is on a hill and the water is being diverted down the road as it comes off the hills ,
We here in co Durham have snow on the tops Stanhope ,Towlaw area which will head down to us The river Wear is dangerously high and on a watch in areas .
Darlo where i work has been swamped in areas .
Hope all are safe Son is out getting kids from school early before teh viaducts are closed later on .

Ann - if your son HAD been at work this week I don't think he would have done much driving.
With the signals waterlogged I understand they have been doing things the old fashioned way - passing tokens to each other - giving permission to drive over the next stretch.

Well,the good news is that I got back from work to find water running into the road from under the drive, the pipes under the slabs seem to have been blocked. Himself cleared them out and the water on the patio is draining away slowly. There was also a tree from next door across the drive.

The good news being that we were both out and if I hadn't been at work my car would have been under the tree.

We also had two more fence panels down, I think virtually the whole garden will have to be re- fenced when the weather bucks up now.

We had m almighty hail storm, thunder lightning the whole lot about an hour ago.just the usual wind and rain at the moment.

Hope all those effected by the floods are ok.
Our water level keeps going up and down, its ok at the moment.. :-D

Last November, the Met Office said in its three month prediction for December to February that there was a slight chance of it being the driest period for some years.

I enjoyed a couple of hours of sunshine yesterday morning as I strolled along the calm beach path. This morning, I wouldn’t expect a duck to venture outside.

Quack! Quack!

I am at home today, monitoring an impending flooded kitchen............the water that drains into our garden from the slightly higher concrete covered gardens of the houses at the back of us is a couple of centimetres from the bottom of the back door.

Our garden is so waterlogged it can't soak up any more rain...........but fingers crossed it stops hammering it down soon and the water can be scooped up in buckets and tipped out into the storm drain in the road...........4 neighbours, who own the concrete gardens are on standby to help as soon as they get home from work

A lady will watch your coach go past J32 of M4 towards end of marathon. I will stand by J36 (Sarn Services). Don't forget to wave madly at us both :-D :-D ;-)

Oh Joy...............I think I just mended the flood!!!

I had a brainwave and paddled out with a wrench, got all stinky groping in the flood and unscrewed the end of the drain that runs under our house, the water is now slowly pouring down into the front drain :-D

Of course there is a downside as that appears to be full to overflowing now too :-|

I have phoned my husband and he is bringing a plumber friend home to see if he can rescue us..........*sighs and Googles Ark building". <3

That's a relief Kitty, I know exactly how it feels to watch the water rising around the house and the feeling of relief as it slowly drains away. Some nice long drain unblocking things might do the trick.

We now only have an inch or two of water on the patio, it is still draining away down the side, a dry day yesterday helped. The rain started again around midday, not as heavy as we were expecting so far but the wind isn't half starting to get up again.

A nicer week is expected next week so will head for Somerset after the weekend for half term.
