We are going out with friends tomorrow evening. One couple, the man I have met twice, he seems very nice, the woman I have never met. OH received a text to ask if they could stay with us overnight . Good manners as far as I am concerned dictated, I waited to be asked. Looks like we will have overnight guests tomorrow.

Can they not go home? :-S

We always wait to be asked, even with family, having booked somewhere already.

How rude Paula. It will seem like having strangers in your home when you have only met the man twice previously and have never met the lady.
I certainly wouldn't be impressed at all.

Don't like the sound of this! I wouldn't dream of asking someone I had only met twice if I could stay overnight, especially if I was bringing a complete stranger. Alfred Hitchcock made films about this sort of thing, usually with lots of blood. Make an excuse. Bob

OH worked with the man until recently, and he has met the woman once, I don't think they have been together for very long. I have to say I was not impressed.

Thanks Bob Bob you have made me feel so much better.

Bob's posting made me laugh out loud BUT I would not be laughing if I was in Paula's position. I second Bob's suggestion.... make an excuse and let them go elsewhere.

It would be difficult to make an excuse as we are going out with other friends. I think we were both surprised at the text not even a telephone call.

We had the grandchildren here for tea, and OH said yes before we had really thought about it. I am not looking forward to it.

how would they know if you have room for them to stay?

PollyinBrum

PollyinBrum Report 14 Mar 2014 20:22

He knows the house we have Ann, and he knows there is just the two of us..

Could be a very long night Paula...... hope they won't make this a regular date!
Just too cheeky/pushy for words (imho).

Yes I agree. it's a bit late to do anything now, except for us to drop out tomorrow, but how could we without making excuses and telling lies to our friends.

Weren't you talking about doing up the spare bedroom?

Drop sheets over everything, cans of paint, no curtains...........

:-D

PollyinBrum Report 14 Mar 2014 20:32

Lol Scozz, I will suggest that to OH when he wakes up, but we have another two spare rooms.

Sheets in one room. Pick up a waif and stray for the second. Fill the third with rubbish. If that dont put them off, nothing will.

Did that text reach your phone?

It would not have reached mine.

PollyinBrum

PollyinBrum Report 14 Mar 2014 20:52

Sharron it was on OHs phone, and we were busy with the little ones at the time. It was so unexpected, he replied and I don't think he thought about until later.

Make an excuse that your family have come to stay unexpectedly for the weekend with children and Sorry but all the rooms will be full..

They wanted to give you a surprise

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 14 Mar 2014 21:30

Good idea Sue......

and everybody is helping to paint all the bedrooms

:-D

A few years ago the 'phone rang, I answered, a male voice asked to speak to Himself. The caller didn't say who he was, nor did he call me by my name.

Himself got on the phone.......... chatted for a while.

The caller was a guy OH worked with many years ago, they had moved to Brisbane (about 2 hours drive from us), and were having work done to their house.......... could we put them up for a week?!!!!!!!

How bl**dy rude!!!!!!!!! The man has met me several times, I've met his family! We hadn't seen them for at least ten years.

btw........ they're loaded, they could afford to stay at a posh hotel for a week.

No, they didn't stay with us.......... and we haven't heard from them since. Double bl**dy rude! :-|
