I was given my engagement ring
and told to keep two weeks on Saturday free in my diary
as he had booked the wedding

then it was one mad rush but the day was perfect <3 <3

He said "Will you marry me?"

I said "Are you sober?"

He said "Yes"

I said "Alright then I will"

Romantic or what :-S

Almost 40 years on, I am so pleased he was sober :-D :-

That's lovely Joy - quite different from mine.

Sitting in a parked car he mumbled something about having looked at his finances and "could afford to do it". How romantic is that? I didn't know if he was proposing marriage or a holiday!

Still, he must have done something right as 51 years later we're still together.

Wow Joy that is amazing. I want to hear more

Kitty more romantic than mine
Mine after a night in on Xmas Eve 2001 said (remember we owned a pub) I couldn´t go and buy you a pressie so how about I make a partial honest woman of you ? So we got engaged and set a date well in the future to allow me to get a divorce. I will not bore you with that story but my divorce papers came through on July 24th 2003 as I married on the 26th ...

Oh dear Uzzi mine sounds a it more romantic.

Joy....I got a discount on my ring as I was working in a jewellers, a teeny tiny ruby and diamond one that fell to bits several years ago :-(

Oh Vera, are our husbands related ?? :-D :-D

well he was the leader of the pack
though we didn't have a biker wedding

but he had gone to the trouble of booking nearly everything
I just had to change the things I didn't want wink wink lol
a friend made the cakes and another friend iced them
they where beautiful all basket work
my dress was long and ivory silk
and the venue gave us the room free as we knew them well
only down fall was his awful mother
and I that got her as a mother in law

we had lived together for two years

39 years later we are still together so must be doing summit right <3 <3

I don't remember ever being asked.
We just sort of decided to get married and then one evening when we were out with my brother and his wife, I was passed what was obviously a ring box.

"Here, you'd better have this" was the added remark.

I promptly gave it back with words to the effect that if that was the tone and sentiment, then he could have it back.
On the way back to my brother's house, I was given ithe box again in a more kindly way in the back of the car , but as we were travelling through dark country lanes, I had no idea what the ring looked like, so as soon as we got back, I dashed upstairs so that I could have a look.

Married over 43 years now....and he's still not romantic, but does have many other good points.

kitty the curtains used to twitch in those days haha
living together just wasn't done
but I couldn't marry till I was 18 without my fathers consent

wish we I had a discount on the rings
its the only thing we paid full price for
the full wedding cost less than £300
£1,685.97 todays value of £300
but what a day we all had biggest outlay was the food
which 4 of us stayed up most of the night doing it :-D :-D

OH asked my dad and then told me he had his permission,
all he needed was mine....old fashioned...and he went down
on one knee.
I was left to arrange everything as he was in the Army, so set a date
everything sorted and he got his orders to go to Aden, so had to bring
the date forward. Of course some thought that was because I was pregnant,
not so, my first child was born 3 years later. This year we celebrate 54 years
of marriage.

Emma :-)

He said, I dont know whether to get engaged this Christmas or next Christmas, (it was November).

I said Why are you getting married

He said Yes, to you.......

36 years married in June. :-D :-D :-D

Just got a very tiny romantic bone in his body now, but it takes some finding.

One proposal I do remember and feel so bad about. The guy got down on his knees infront of his pub and my parents asked me to marry him .. I am, not sure whether I snorted or gave some other disapproval but I did a runner. Dad found me 10 days later in his garden :-D
