Dermot Report 18 Jul 2014 08:08

Thunder is caused by God when he is breaking up some big boulders with a mighty sledge-hammer. The sparks that are produced by the hammering results in lightening.

That's what our junior teacher taught us at school to calm our nerves during thunder storms. And I still believe it.

We had a storm here last night too - amazing!! :-D :-D

Dermot, thunder is caused by God moving his furniture.
Lightning happens when he stubs his toe :-P

I concluded that God is a bit clumsy. :-)

Started here around midnight and went on for about an hour - amazing electric storm and torrential rain at its height.

We used to be able to hear the gunnery practice in Portsmouth and I was reliably informed that that was sailors throwing their cheese in the cupboard.

Having had seven years of utter dread of having a power cut (air mattress, electric hoist, profiling hospital bed etc.) I LOVE THUNDERSTORMS.

Power cuts? Bring 'em on!

Wow that lightening, lit up the whole room.

Naturally, I thought the papps were camped outside my door again, flashing away, I combed my hair, and gave them my brightest smile!

:-D :-D

There was a big storm here in the early hours of the morning, so my son and OH informed me, I slept right through it. Not really surprising as I also slept through the 1987 hurricane :-D

I love storms so I am sad to have missed it.

Storms are something I dont like.

A friend of our family got hit and died by a lighting strike many years ago now, while potato picking.she was only 19.

We used to say thunder was god letting off wind,

I was up as usual about 3 ish in this part of Essex.....Lightning doesn't normally bother me but last nights seemed a bit close....curtains were not drawn and I was worrying that we may lose power and I would be stuck in my electric recliner :-D

Will be ready to take photos tonight should it happen again

We didn't have the forecasted hot hot day.

I went into Harrogate and it was very breezy with some rain.

Why do people look weird at people that just carry on walking in the rain without a brolly up.stabbing people.,?

It's not as if the rain came down heavy.2 minutes and it was over and done with in a few minutes.

Just hope we get the storms tonight as it's really muggy here.

It's coming.........huge black clouds over the sea, 2 miles away :-(

Our poor elderly dog is struggling, she is panting because of the heat and laryngeal paralysis.............this restricts her breathing when she pants, she doesn't bother about a storm though.

She is exhausted, but the air is cooling, should be a lot easier for her once it rains :-)

Nothing we can do for her except manage the symptoms :-(

That storm missed our south east corner, but I think we're in for our share later.

It's been unbearably hot all day, but I thought I could cut the grass before it rained,
but........
It's flying ants day here, so it will have to wait.
Seagulls are having a feast!
