Most of us were taught to use these words.

I like it.

When we lived overseas we were very friendly with a Spanish couple who fled the country and were living in the south of France.

The wife told me that in their part of the country they never used please and thank you when talking with really good friends and family.

I had not heard of that until then but accepted that she knew the customs there better than I did.
