Tomorrow is Canada's Birthday ........ July 1st.

This year will be the country's 149th birthday celebrating the fact that it was on July 1 1867 that Canada signed the British North America Act to became a new federation with its own constitution The BNAA is now called the Constitution Act.

There will be parties, parades, fireworks, etc etc, all across the country. It is one of the very few Statutory Holidays that occurs in every province and territory.

There are huge plans for celebrations next year when it will be the 150th birthday.

It always gets overlooked because of the American July 4th .......... today I got an email from Jacquie Lawson who have put out a new card for July 4, but not July 1st :-(

It's amazing; I've met umpteen Americans in Oz and every single one of them has been a really nice person, but collectively, as a Nation, not my cup of tea at all :-0 :-( :-(

Newfoundland calls today Memorial Day, not Canada Day

On July 1 1916, the Newfoundland Regiment, all volunteers, was ordered out of the trenches at a place called Beaumont-Hamel to start the Somme Offensive.

About 800 men went over

60 men answered the roll call the next morning. All the rest had been killed.

The Regiment is now called the Royal Newfoundland Regiment by order of King George V, and Princess Anne is the Colonel-in-Chief.

Happy Canada Day, Sylvia, from a fellow Canadian.

Did you watch the ceremonies on Parliament Hill? Made me so proud to be Canadian!

Happy Canada Day, Margaret

No, I didn't watch, we've been doing things around here. I do know that a singer we think a lot of was going to sing, Alex Cuba

He said on the radio this morning he was going to sing in Cuban and English, with 1 verse of a Cuban love song in Wit'suwet'in, the First Nations language from the area where he lives here in BC :-D

That's definitely Canadian!!! :-D :-D :-D
