Terry Hall entertained generations of children Terry Hall, who was one of the earliest children's television entertainers, along with his sidekick Lenny the Lion, has died after a long illness, aged 80. Hall, of Earlsdon, in Coventry, first appeared on the BBC with Lenny in 1956 and they had their own show from 1957. The Beatles made one of their early TV appearances in a 1963 episode of Pops and Lenny, singing Please, Please Me. Hall also appeared in the US on the Ed Sullivan Show and on UK television throughout the 1960s and 1970s.

Lenny The Lion is one of my first memories of watching T.V. I loved him. Use to like the one with the big jolly pirate and his parrot, can't remember the name of the programme though.

Such a shame Terry has died. He was one of the old school entertainers. He knew how to entertain children without resorting to shouting and gunky mess everywhere like most do today. I think most children loved Terry and Lenny. I was in the Lenny The Lion Fan Club. We had a membership card and badge and a signed photo LOL I remember going to see him at Sunderland Empire Theatre and think those wearing the member badge got in a bit cheaper.
