We also have Young Nicks Head, which was a headland sighted by a young lad called (would you believe it?) Nick from up in the Crows nest of Capt Cooks ship. I have loved meeting you all, I certainly didnt expect this thread to go on for so long. You are a wonderful bunch of people. If you ever feel inspired to come to NZ give me a yell first (time to tidy up the mess instead of spending all my time on here!) and I hope to meet you. My love and best wishes to everybody. Huia, aka The Old Crow.

Some Japanese resident of NZ was walking in our bush in the Hunua Hills, just over the hill from us on Sunday, with his sister and her son. He lagged behind sis and son and disappeared. Searchers have been looking for him since. Doesnt look good as it was very cold last night and he was not well prepared. Why do people go for a 'walk' on a long track without being prepared for all weather. It can change so quickly in the hills. Husband and I were tramping a track (3 or 4 day with huts at intervals) in the mountains in the S. Island a few yrs back and an Easterner arrived at one of the huts in a flimsy plastic throw-away raincoat. They tear so easily. We were appalled. I hope the rangers told him firmly that he could not continue. That track goes up quite high, he could have been caught in a snow storm on the pass.

Been at a Gen Soc committee meeting. After driving home in our ute with homemade canopy I found some lowdown slimeball had tagged the door on the back. OH and I spent about half an hour or so removing it with kerosene. If I had caught them at it you would have heard their screams over there in America and even in England. Off to bed soon.
