Yes Karen and Carol, you have the answers right. Raurimu spiral was considered quite an engineering feat when it was built. The problem was to get the railway line up from one level onto the plateau and trains dont like steep gradients, so they took it in a big loop, going through a tunnel and across a bridge etc. Now if anybody is tired of R you can move on to S.
