To all who have served and those that are still serving. To all those brave soles that fought with their lives and those that lost, to give us a great country and freedom. To all those that are serving now, we thankyou from the bottom of our hearts.

My father, who served in two world wars and was never able to talk of his experiences. The broken men who returned from Korea who were my own patients, and those from Malaya around the same time. Also those of my colleagues who were killed in various skirmishes in other countries. The young of the past have little to prove.

Yet another year has past.

God bless all service men and women.

And all those that have past REST IN PEACE.

Poppy Man tours war zone to launch Remembrance Day appeal

In an act of derring-do, the British legion launched its poppy campaign in a war zone for the first time — with none other than its mascot Poppy Man.

The mascot appeared alongside troops at a ceremony Thursday in the southern Iraq city of Basra that included a service of dedication at a memorial wall remembering fallen British soldiers in Iraq. He also toured operating stations in Iraq.

The trip marks the first foray outside the U.K. for Poppy Man, a life-size figure made of wire mesh covered in scores of fake poppies that has grown in popularity since his first appearance in Royal British Legion ads in 2007.

Poppy Man has a page on Facebook, a blog tracking his travels across the U.K and recently tapped into mobile blogging through Moblog, allowing users to upload cell phone pictures of him to the web.

Thinking of all those gone before, and those in the service of their country now, around the world in constant danger.

I hope those not attending a service today, will take a few moments at 11 am, to give thanks for their freedom and honour the brave men and women and their grieving families.

We will remember them.

For tomorrow

I was pleased to see in shops today notices asking people to respect two minutes silence tomorrow, on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.

I wear my poppy with pride and respect for every man woman and child that lost thier lives during all the wars May they rest in peace.
