Hi everyone, Anne, Brenda, June, Jude - Yes it was my husband's family history that got me into genealogy - quite different and had lots of interesting stories. His chap that came out to N.Z. married a Maori princess, well that's how the story goes, they had several children and by tracing my husband's maternal side that is how we found him but he had a tragic death - had his head cut off - very long story which has been documented. I had a few surprises when trying to trace my one Danish grandfather's family as well. June, Beckham - our dog is called Kramer - he's a mad Weimarener who dashes in just like the guy off the American TV programme "Sienfield". Sylvia, Hope you've got some good open-toed sandals for your trip. Lou, and everyone else going to Liverpool have a great time and say hello from me. Elisabeth, I love Magnolia trees though all trees can get too big. We just had a bit of a battle wih a couple of ours. I did one trip to the tip but there's still another to do.

Hi everyone I didn't expect to speak to you today but I've been awake since 3.30, couldn't get back to sleep. Last night Genes crashed and I was going to put the birthdays on for Sunday, but couldn't, TV was not to my liking (whenever is it?) so I went to bed, that is probably why I wakened at that time. Maybe I should have come down at 3.30, put the birthdays on then I may have got back to sleep. Anyway I'm off to have my shower now, so have a good day. Lou, see you in Liverpool. Love June xx

Good morning everyone Another sunny day, the forecast is for hot and humid this weekend - I hope it doesn't get too hot. Off to visit Ikea later, my sister is coming to pick me up in an hour. Have to shower and wash my hair before then so can't spend too long. I need a new bed as the legs on mine have split, it has a folding base and it is the two legs in the middle so it is developing a "sag" - I think it might collapse completely one night!! Did a little bit of digging in the garden yesterday. Just a small area outside the conservatory. Cut back the clematis which was looking very tatty, dug out the oxalis which was smothering everything, replanted the daffodil and hyacinth bulbs and now have to look for something else to plant there. Resorted to Weedol for the rest of the garden to try to kill off some of the nettles and bindweed that are invading everywhere. My shrubs are all overgrown and need some drastic pruning - I am thinking of getting rid of some and starting again as the garden is really too small and they are mostly quite old. I have been remembering some things I did as a child. When my sister was born (in 1936) I was sent to my Auntie in Westcliff for a couple of months before the birth. My Uncle was an avid gardener, always experimenting and was trying (as so many have) to grow a black tulip. That year we had a warm spring and early summer, one day one of my cousins and I decided the tulips looked a bit hot so decided to give them a drink. We filled the cups of the tulips with water - a hot and sunny day - you can imagine what happened!!! Uncle was a bad-tempered man at best and he was so angry, amongst other things my cousin and I were on "earwig duty" for a week, I can't remember the rest of the punishment but I hated having to do the earwig thing, really have a phobia about the horrible creatures now. Have just noticed the time - must go will have to be ready when my sister arrives, she might be younger but she is bigger than me - and a bully!! Not really but I do need to be ready to go when she gets here or I will get told off. Hope you all have a lovely day, especially those going to Liverpool. Love Kathleen

Morning everyone - was'nt l good yesterday, mind you l did try in the evening and as we all know, there was a problem accessing GC. Anyway its a beautiful, sunny morning - Vic is about to leave for work, he hopes to be back about mid-day,then we're off to Worcestershire dog hunting. There are 2 kennels we are visiting - can't wait. Infact we very nearly went yesterday, but then realised one of them closed at 3pm. One set of curtains are up - they look great - did have quite a palaver getting them up and they now need to be ironed again!!!!! they might drop, if not l'll steam them with mini steamer. Elisabeth - have a lovely week with your son and partner, take it easy. Dust around the pooter, join the club l have a few spiders as well!!!! l am supposed to be cleaning and sorting the pooter ready to move it all upstairs to make space for new table and chairs!! l will , l will - lol lol June & Lou - have a lovely time in Liverpool, you've probably gone by now though!!! Is Gaynor your daughter or is there another Gaynor(l'm abit slow)!! She is one very brave lady. Lou -hope Cliff soon gets another job. No your not daft, they obviously love you and l would have cried as well:o) Christine - fasinating to find rellies with interesting backgrounds. Mine were/are Russian/Ukraine and some now American, found one playing for an Eygytian footie team - but not tried to contact him.My maiden name was Menin, changed from Meninsky/Menushkin and my grandfather was an artist - having paintings in galleries all over the world - including the Tate!!!! and War Memorial Museum London - and l have'nt even been and looked yet - l must l really must. His son painted for the Royal Ballet, my sister has some of the most exquisite pastel paintings of Ballerina's by him - he's retired now aged 83yrs. Sylvia - hows the foot. Have you gone on your hols now???? Ann - Chinooks thats it, love it when they fly over and the jets - whoooooosh through the valley - wounder what our new dog will think of them??? Kathleen - say hi to Peter when u next hear from him, he was always a gent and very funny. Do you remember the site he uses for his photo albums - l remember hm saying they are free to use. l have just signed up with 'Shutterfly' which seems great so far and free, but l always worry about hidden costs. They are offering 15 prints free, but charges for P & P from USA,which is fair enough, but once l have given them my bank details - probably whooooosh (like that word)!!!! Well thats it for now, l must go find something to wear. I was ironing Vic a T-shirt for work just now and tried on a pair of trousers l had'nt warn for ages cause they were toooooo big - well now there is a 10ft gap between the button and button hole, l kid you not!!!! lol Thats all the food l've eaten during the past 2-3 weeks - blimey - l'll have to start smoking again!!! no not really, it'll be back to salads!! See you all later - hopefully with some exciting news - l''do me best not to pick the first mutt that smiles at me:o) Jude sarf wales x

Morning all - could'nt sleep, been thinking about our return visit to the Dog's Trust. For those who not sure whats happening - we went to visiit 2 kennells, the first only had puppies for homing. The other one had about 150 of all sorts. The first section we saw a black collie cross with a white patch on tail, she was smiling at us through kennell doorway but would'nt come out (we think food was on the way), anyways we then saw a sign that said "l'm booked", so we moved on! We made notes of about 6 others, the ones we really liked had either been booked or did'nt like cats. At the end we took our notes to the staff, none really fitted the bill, then l happened to mention the Black Collie cross - the guy said "she's not booked anymore" well, we went through her notes and she fits the bill perfectly and her name is Lady. We could'nt see her again cause they were all being bedded down for the night ,now 5pm and they closed at 4pm - so we are going back later today - hubby will be home from work about 1pm and we'll go straight away - l will phone in the morning make sure they still have a reserve on her for us and tell them we are coming. l've also written an account of all this on a thread by David Bennett -" Do you believe in Ghosts", some of you might like to read it! Its misty here but then it still very early, but it has a feel of being a chilly day. My big fat cat Jimmy is sitting on the table right behind me and staring at the back of my head, l can feel his stare - he can't be hungry, l only fed him about half an hour ago - praps he's heard there might be another addition to the house!! Anyway l might go and have a few more hours kip - see you all later:o) Jude sarf wales

Hi everyone Its rather dull here at the moment, I'll just have to wait and see what it decides to do, before I put the washing out. The Liverpool meetup was lovely, and the weather was kind to us, Val had organised it very well, first some of them laid flowers at the War Memorial then we went to the old Anglican Cathedral for a buffet lunch, then a walk through ChinaTown to the Albert Dock. It was a great day, enjoyed by all. Another meetup is already being discussed. There are are 2 Gaynors on the site, Gaynor in Stoke Poges who is not too well at the moment and my daughter, who goes under the name Gee Baby to save confusiion. Jude, I hope you have now got your new doggie, they are such lovely companions. Peter and Betty are still away, Peter uses Webshots for his photos. Elisabeth, your dinner sounds lovely, fund raising is fun especially with such a lovely meal. I expect Peter's girlfriend will be there by now, enjoy yourselves. Ann, another person enjoying food, all this talk of food is making me hungry. Brenda, Bury market is well known for its Black Puddings, hope John enjoyed them. When I was working I used to go to Bury Town Hall for meetings, and at lunch time wander out round the shops etc, for fresh air to keep me awake in the afternoon. I expect Sylvia will be in Banbury by now. Kathleen, dont fancy the earwigging one little bit. I hope you got sorted with a new bed, I dont suppose you have got it yet, they usually deliver the following week. You wont have excuses for not sleeping then! I hope everyone who I haven't left a message for is alright and hope to see you soon. Love June xx

Hi everyone, Had a big day yesterday as it was Father's Day in NZ. Jude, Your new dog sounds great - though they are a handful. Our Weimaraner can jump anything. When we first got him we also had some builders working on our property and the famous line from them to our dog was "have you been for your round of golf today?" That was because one of the green keepers at the local golf club had found him and tied him up for me to go and get him! Elisabeth, I know how those long haul flights take it out of you and then you have to get into the right time zone - fine if you've got lots of time to enjoy the new place. Kathleen, Ear wig duty - I remember my Mum always telling us not to ear wig (listen into grown-up conversations) but always had a horror of ear wigs - just the thought that one could climb into your ear while you were asleep! June, Sounds like the Liverpool meet went off well.

Morning all - its certainly not as warm as yesterday, abit dull looking, but warm enough:o) Elisabeth - l hate filling the dishwasher as well, but its so useful - hubby usually empties it, he can't fill it, makes an awful job, least he tries though!!:o) Ann - there is picture of Lady(2) on GC photo page (MSN). Really not sure whether to change her name or not, spose we will know more when she's here - but for the time being she's Lady and it suits her:o). Do have a lovely holday, will be thinking of you soaking up the sun and relaxing, sounds like you are going to need it after all your visitors - good fun though!! And we will have a get together when you return:o) Still not heard if l have work - this week its been cancelled cause some rooms are'nt ready, so fingers still crossed. Brenda- we made a 2nd visit to Dogs Trust at Evesham yesterday - about an hour from here. This time we were able to walk her as Sat we were too late, they had all gone to bed! She's a poppit and you can see her on the site mentioned above the addy is: http://groups(.)msn(.)com/gcphotospage/homepage.msnw How are you now?? Christine - l have a feeling we will have to be very careful for quite a while - she is interested in cats, but has'nt chased them so we're hoping poor Jimmy won't feel like packing hs bags - since he's become the only animal - he's also become so much more relaxed and layed back! June - my washing is still out from yesterday, slap my wrists!!Most nights the neighbours have bonfires and everything smells next day, also cars are covered in soot etc - but fortunately for me - no bonfires last night!!!!:o) l'm feeling better now, had a slight hang over first thing - my sister, her hubby and her son, plus us 2 went out for a drink - well once or twice it could have got a little emotional over issues her 2 sons have had in the past.At the wedding alot came out and she was unaware about it - the son with us last night did'nt know she did'nt know!!!! and started talking about it - whooops - l was trying to play things down (not argueing went on) and kept taking another mouthful of vino!!!My sister is as tearful etc as me and has had depression, so l was just tying to be calm. l will need to talk to her cause it was obvious things had happened in the weeeee late hours the night before the wedding - gawd l could write abook about the wedding. The happy couple are due back tomorrow, he text me yesterday (7am grrrrr) to arrange a BBQ at his m.i.l. Sat11th where they both live, and a photo/video session, should be good - THEN the next day we pick Lady up. On our way to Dans we have to call into Dogs Trust for an adoption chat, sounds intersting!! This Wed l am on a coach journey to London - my God son is having his op on the Thurs (unless they say no beds!!!) l am staying with my daughter. On the Thurs eve she's taking me clubbing!!!!! a nice bar round the corner have live music sessions, quite often they are up and coming groups etc that need the advertising - also they have world music or something on Thursdays, last 2 weeks its been African drum type music, lets hope its the same this week:o) or Irish, like Foster & Allen oh yeh!!!! Ok thats me for a while - take care everyone, hope l have'nt missed out anyone or anything important cause l do waffle sometimes - or is it always??? lol Jude sarf wales

Hi everyone What a day, the man arrived to service my burglar alarm, he was coming Saturday but was in the area. I have been emailing my Liverpool photos to some that had asked, some of the addresses were out of date. Then when I got round to putting a message on, my space bar wouldn't work, I removed the key and cleaned it, then it decided sometimes it would do a space and sometimes drop down a line, I managed to enter my message, then just as I was signing off, the system went down and I lost everything. I tried again but decided to give up and invest in a new keyboard, which I haven't fitted yet, I am on the laptop now. Elisabeth, I think they definitely deserve a gold star for even thinking of washing up. I'm pleased you have found a connection on the site, I was hoping it was me, after all my rellies are around the Nottinghamshire area. Peter's girlfriend must have recovered from the long flight to go to the gym. Ann, you are lucky to have so many visitors, they must enjoy both your cooking and your company. Anyway you haven't long to wait for your holiday now, then you can be pampered. Brenda, is your email address still the same, then I can forward you some photos. Christine, maybe your dog fancies a game of golf, lol, when I was in the vets, a dog had swallowed a golf ball and they had to open him up, it cost the owner £200! A poodle I had a few years ago went in the builders hut and pinched their lunch. I have a horror of earwigs crawling in my ears too. Jude, It sounds as though you have been living it up lately, weddings are exciting even after the event with the photos etc. Have you got Lady mk 2 yet? I am off now to try and connect this new keyboard, so I will see you all tomorrow. Love June xx

Good morning all - its abit greyish here this morning, whats it like where you lot are?? Kathleen - l did'nt answer ur last message. We just love the planes, don't know about being that near to Heathrow though. How are your family, l remember you talking alot about ur grand daughter visiting u, or you pick her up from school, thats nice to have her that close. We don't have grand children yet - but hey now Dan & Zoe are married and once they have their own place, praps it won't be too long. Can you remind me of some of the names that we used to chat too,one a lady has moved house and said she might not get back on the net for some time - she used to chat to Peter alot with you, can't for the life of me think of her name - she was always so nice!!!?? Peter had a nick name for her, which l also can't remember!! 5 days to go before we get new dog - we might change her name after all,but still not sure to what. My godson and l were talking on msn last night - he was sooooooo upset when Lady (1) died and last night he said "there was and will only ever be one Lady" oh gawd that got me going again and l think he was as well- he's the one going into hosp tomorrow. l now have all the new (charity) curtains up and very nice they look as well. The odd one which is longer, l might use to make the back ones fuller, they look ok but could do with abit extra oooomph in them - hubby being the old fart, says "they look fine" - but what doe's he know!!!!! lol More sorting to do today - the storeroom needs organising and stuff moved so we can do some minor repairs, there is a long strip of daylight coming through, which is fine now cause most days its warm - but in the winter it will be very cold and damp, we have heaters waiting!!! We also need to get a plug sorted for the computer, not sure about the lighting, what we have should be ok. Must do more ironing, thing is most of my clothes don't fit - really embarassing - l might have to end up wearing Vics track suit bottoms!!!!!!!! lol - gawd thats not funny,he's a 38" waist and 31" inside leg - l could take off like a balloon, infact that might get me to London quicker than the coach!!!!! lol lol Elizabeth - do you still have your son and friend staying with you? are they still loading the dishwasher?? l was hoping to have our son here this weekend for a photo session but we're going there now and pick the dog up,so a much better idea - then l don't have to cook either!!!!!!! Are you still aching from the pruning - l really must do some gardening, l mean gardening and not the little bits that l have done - needs major weeding, inparts some are 2-3ft tall!!!!! June - you did have a funny old day, do hope its better today. Have you sorted the keyboard?? We get the dog on Sunday.Sat at 10am we have to be there for an adoption talk, then onto son's,then collect dog onway home Sunday - no doubt we will have son etc following us to kennels!!!!! Lou and Christine - how are you?? Hope l have'nt missed anyone:o) See yeh Jude sarf wales

Hi everyone Its lovely and sunny here, not that I have had time to enjoy it. This morning my daughter Gaynor send me a message that the doctor had sent her a letter saying he wanted to see her, so would I take her. She still isn't driving because she still keeps feeling lighted headed. Also she thought there was something wrong that showed on the tests he had done, being as he sent a letter. The tests were fine apart from the thyroid test which was borderline so wanted another test doing. He also though it may the hangover from the viral infection she had had, that was causing the tiredness and dizziness. So now we have to wait and see. Then I had some shopping to do, and it was 3.30 by then. Thank goodness Nick fitted my new keyboard and mouse while I was out. I have no excuse now for bad typing! Jude, what a lovely weekend ahead of you, how old is Lady? Brenda, I like the new title, I'm glad Bren is improving, she sent me an email yesterday. Kathleen, Elisabeth, Lou and JA and all others looking in, I hope you are all alright. See you tomorrow Love June xx

Kathleen Report 7 Sep 2004 18:23

Hello everyone :-) Started out a bit grey looking but now the sun is shining and showing up the dirt on my windows - also showing up the spiders webs in the corners. How come those pesky spiders manage to spin so many webs when only yesterday I swept them all away? It is also very windy. Jude, one drawback to living so close to the airport is the dirt, it clings to everything like a thin greasy film. Though, as I said before, we are no longer at the end of the runway. A few years back the aircraft took off or landed right over our rooftops (I swear some of them took a short cut through my bedroom). Now we only get the odd one or two coming overhead but you get used to it. Have lived here for 44 years now. Wasn't it another Brenda who moved house? I'm afraid I can't remember the nickname Peter used for her either - get rather a lot of 'senior' moments these days. My granddaughter has just called in, she said she will be back in a little while. She has been living back with her Mum (my eldest daughter) for nearly two years now, before that she lived with me. I had her from the age of 3 until she was turned 11, how different she is now!! At 13 she is a young lady, growing up much too fast can be very cheeky sometimes but it has been a difficult time for her. Changing schools, her best friend moving away - they were almost joined at the hip always together, and moving back with her Mum. Who also had to get used to dealing with a teenager when she hadn't had the chance to go through the younger years with her. However, they are both coping really well, just need a lot of support from the rest of the family. They live only a few minutes walk away from me and Indira cycles back and forth most evenings. She always has to come to Nan for her cuddles and to have a little chat. June, I hope that Gaynor Ann is soon feeling better, it is horrid to keep getting those light-headed feelings. The worst part is waiting for the test results - why do they always seem to take ages to come back? Have just seen the time and must get on with getting dinner ready for Chris coming in from work. Will have to go now but will be back maybe later. Syvia chose a good week to come here as the weather is quite good at the moment - all set to change next week apparently, so the weather forecaster said. Hope she is enjoying her stay. Elisabeth, Brenda and everyone else hope you are all having a good day and will catch up later. Bye for now Love Kathleen
