If you have any Kerr names in your family tree, you may find this interesting...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clan_Kerr

Part of the blurb ~

The Kerrs have typically been associated with left-handedness; some of their buildings, such as Ferniehirst Castle, have been explicitly designed with this in mind.[6] There is an anecdotal link between the Kerrs and left-handedness, although it is unclear whether or not present-day individuals with the surname of Kerr have a higher incidence of left-handedness than the general population[citation needed]. An article appearing in the BMJ circa 1972 confirmed that about 30% of those with the surname Kerr were left-handed as opposed to a background 10% of the population. However, a 1993 study found no statistically significant increase in left-handedness among people with the family name Kerr or Carr.[7]

My 4xgreat-grandmother was a Kerr, I've traced her line back a long way (with a lot of help from other Kerr family members).

I'm right-handed

:-)

Watching tennis on TV last summer, and I noticed that Rafael Nadal was a left handed player, yet he signed autographs with his right hand?

I think it deepened on the teachers because my brother wasn't forced to be right handed and we both went to the same school he is years older than me.

Both my parents were left handed, as is my brother, one sister only left handed with cutlery the other is completely right handed.
I can use both and was forced to be right handed at school in the 50s and 60s, I blame those teachers for my untidy hand writing.
I was told a long time ago that people with untidy hand writing are very clever because their brain is thinking faster than they can write and that is good enough for me :-D

As a left-hander (cack handed my dad said)

I use a knife and fork the same as everyone else.

I found it very hard to learn to tell the time and maths is a foreign language to me.

I cannot balance myself with my left hand does not feel right.

My handwriting is so bad, that even I have trouble reading it. Hence I now type all my letters. And apoligise for doing so....

And I am the only one in my whole family. Genius of course.

Can write backwards as well....

Gran tried to teach me to crochet, and it was only recently that I realised why I could not get the hang of it. Some 45 years later!!!!

And do not get me started on scissors ;-)

My sister is left handed and so are my ex husbands two sisters.

My friend from school was left handed and I remember she had to sit on my left side in class otherwise we would be knocking elbows :-D

I could do with being left handed now as my right hand has more or less given up working :-(

MIL was a lefty and now my youngest son and two g/kids are lefties don't know about geniuses but all are fantastic artists son is a graphic designer. I too heard the saying left handers are a surviving twin. One thing I was adamant about was that the school did not make him write with his right hand as it was they couldn't of cared less !! OH by the way Norah I'm a Norah too! :-D oh! and another thing don't worry about not living as long as right handers my MIL was 88 when she died> :-D

I'm a lefty, I follow my dad, he was too, my mum was right handed, my oh is right handed so is my daughter.
I can eat with knife and fork in either hand, always commented on my nice hand writing, (not like a crab), do almost everything with left hand. bought left handed dressmaking scissors, but couldn't get on with them as I was taught in school with right handed ones using left hand! Knit left handed way.
But learning to play violin or guitar do it right handed way! :-D :-D

Even if you use your dominant hand all the time, there is always something you do with the other one. I'm right handed, but always get money out of my purse with my left hand.

These Three golfers, in the club room were mourning the loss of one of the four, who had moved on.......to another area, and were trying to think of who they could ask, to replace him. A woman standing nearby over heard them and said that she played a bit of golf and would like to join them. Well they mulled it around a bit and then invited her for a trial game........When would be suitable? they asked her.Oh Sunday morning, 630 or 645 am. how about that?. 630 am sunday morning they all met up on the links, and off they went, she was brilliant, went round in 7 under par. She's good, they thought how about trying her for a few more games.to see if that was just a fluke?so, they invited her again, what time? Oh 630 or 645 am on sunday.so the next sunday 630 am she turns up with a different set of clubs, left handed this time, any way off they went........brilliant again another 7 under par, this time left handed. this went on for a few more weeks each time sometimes playing right, and sometimes lefthanded..each way as good as the other........eventually one of the guys says, tell me you are good with both sets of clubs, what method do you use to decide which set you use? well she says thats easy, when i wake up on sunday morning, I pull the covers off my husband, and if his tackle is laying to the left? thats the way I play, and if its to the right.then right handed......gosh he said, just supposing its standing straight up? well she says then I wont be here till 6:45 am!!!!

Apparently left handed people use both sides of their brains unlike right handed... dont know how true it is and cant remember where I read it but left handed people do tend to recover better from strokes and such like. Me I am Right handed as are my parents, my other half and my children (except my youngest whos is my 6th child) all of my children eat left handed and when we go into a restaraunt they have to swap all their knifes and forks around.

Norah - I'm left-handed when I write, which led a relative of mine to say I must have been a witch in a previous life, and burnt at the stake!! Nice! I prefer the genius theory. However, when I play guitar I'm right-handed. So does that make me ambi....... ambi........ left and right-handed? Glenys. (Ambidextrous? How do you spell it?!)

Ramblin Rose

Ramblin Rose Report 24 Sep 2004 08:32

I'm ambidextous,so what does that make me? I used to amuse the children when I was teaching by swapping the chalk over when I got to the centre of the board. That way they could always see what I was writing. I have both left-handed children and right-handed.The left handed ones are more into the arts and my right handed offspring are practical artisans. Never thought about it before Rose
