I have now trawled through all shipping records I can find between 1885 to 1900 and cannot find Bashara or Lulu.

However, if he was 21 on arrival there are many Abdullah's listed as ships hands from Arabia, so will also check these. I cannot find any list for the ship Ruby other than the fact that Ruby did exist.

Also nudging hoping some other kind soul will come up with an answer.

1933 Living at 68 Coward Street, his occupation is Dealer. Lulu is with him. Also living as same address are, Helen Veronica and Olga Mary.

1936 Living at 66 Coward Street, his occupation is Dealer. Lulu is with him. Living at same address are Helen Veronica and Martha Veronica.

1937 Living at 66 Coward Street, his occupation is Dealer. Lulu is with him. Living at same address are Helen Veronica and Martha Veronica.

1943 Living at 93 Coward Street, his occupation is greengrocer. Lulu is with him. Living at same address are John Joseph, Helen Veronica and Martha Veronica.


In 1949 they are still in Mascot but at 93 Coward Street and occupation listed as a greengrocer. Also a John Joseph Abdullah is living with them, John is a Moulder.

1954 still at 93 Coward Street with Lulu, occupation greengrocer.

So this will hopefully also narrow down the Marriage date, as Helen and Olga could vote in 1933 but not 1930.

Thank you for the information. Yes, they are the persons I am looking for; I did find the death registration on the NSWBDM for Bashara but couldn't find the death registration for Lulu.
I was confused by the date variances as my information is that he was 21 years when he arrived and he did not come with his parents.
He must have been in Victoria for 1 year as that is where he was married (1910). I am now questioning the marriage date so I need to find details of his marriage in Victoria.

Do you have his death certificate, as this would add a further clue as to how long in the country.

His naturalisation states he was 21 in 1903, so if he arrived in 1895? he would have been only 13 years old? Or was he 21 in 1895 of his arrival. Did he come here with his parents?

In 1903 it also states he was in NSW for 7 years, so just maybe he was in another state for 1 year.

These are probably questions you have asked yourself over and over.

I also see a Lulu died in 1966 at Mascot, is this your Lulu. No parents listed here for a clue either.

Have found only one mention of the ship Ruby so far in 1889 which from what I can make out landed first in Fremantle WA, which was the first port of landing in Australia, then on to SA, Victoria and NSW. Have not as yet found any passenger lists for RUBY.

Thanks for the information. You have given me information that I didn't have. The information I have is that Bashara arrived in NSW (obtained from his Naturalisation Certificate) but perhaps this in incorrect. I need to find exactly when and where he arrived in Australia.

Lynette have checked a couple out as his naturalisation states he arrived in 1895, but it only states Mr Abdullah on passenger lists.

I cannot find anything for Ganem or the ship Ruby, I think most of the latter ships records are on Find My Past and I do not have access.

Bashara Abdullah Ganem (c1874) arrived in NSW from Syria on the ship the "Ruby". He met his wifeto be, Lulu (Lily) Turk (Terk) on the same ship. His naturalisation certificate states his surname as Abdullah. He married Lulu at St Patricks Cathedral Melbourne, Vic on 24/1/1910.
Can anyone help with passenger lists?
