Does anyone know please, if a baby can be registered 6 months later with a different surname, other than through adoption?

Thankyou
Rosemary

We heard from the Convent in Birmingham, our Mary didn't join the Order.
We have had a breakthrough re the Palm Court hotel.
I will let you know if we have any luck.
But we think Mary changed her name before she married.

Thankyou

Hello everyone,
I'm on a different course at the minute. It's something I have thought of before.
Did Mary take Holy Orders, and in that way 'drop out of society'?
Does anyone know if there are any lists in the UK for people who have done this, especially in the 1960s please?
It is a possibility. We have searched for hard for Mary, and have hit so many brick walls!
If anyone has any ideas on this, please let me know.

Many thanks
Rosemary :-(

Hi Rosemary
The 'National Library of NZ' (Auckland) (on-line) has an 'Ask a Librarian' service ...they will check their records including elelctoral rolls (past & present) and newspaper death notices -for less common names.

The 'National Library of Aus' (Canberra) also offers an 'Ask a Librarian' service.

We've only Mary to find DetEcTive. She is my hubbie's sister.
Yes we have put adverts in an australian newspaper & women's magazine. But
nothing! May be worth doing again.

Thankyou for your thoughts.

As you and your siblings have added your names to all sorts of 'Looking For' lists, someone must come across them one day.

Just make sure that you and whoever else has placed them keep their registered email address up to date or use a generic one. ;-)

Has anyone suggested placing an advert in one of the Australian newspapers on the off chance?

Thankyou Jax. I have tried there this afternoon strangely enough.
No luck though with what I hoped to find!

Had an email from Croydon Library today, unfortunately Mary wasn't at that address in 1966.67.

Thankyou for the help. I've got to have a breakthrough soon, after 9 years of searching!!
Many thanks

I emailed South Norwood Library, and they have passed it on to the Croydon Library, as South Norwood only hold the current electoral roles. It may take a time.
But thankyou DetEcTive.

Another interesting find, a Mary Teresa Love in New Zealand.
Is anyone able to help me with this please?
Thankyou

Thankyou DetEcTive!

I will write to them over the weekend.
It was the address of the sibling's Uncle on their mother's side. And we wondered if Mary went to live there, as they had no children.

Many thanks to you
I will let you know what transpires.

The historical ER on Ancestry only go up to 1965.

Although this particular library doesn't appear to hold copies, they may be able to tell you who does. There would probably be a 'look up' fee.

Thankyou DetEcTive, i will follow that up.
Is there anyone please who could help me with a lookup for 1966 in South norwood, london? Electoral role?

The siblings Uncle lived there, and we wondered if Mary went to live with them for a time. She was 21 in May 1966.
34, Woodside Avenue. South Norwood.

Thankyou very much.

Try http://www.whitepages.com.au/

There is a P & M Thomas as well as various other P's.

Someone told me that the current ER has to be checked in person, so may be an Australian resident can advise?

Rosemary

Rosemary Report 10 Jan 2013 13:51

Hi, heard from someone in australia who advises that it is electoral roles we need to be looking at.
A Mary Teresa Thomas was on the electoral role in the 1980s with a Peter.
Can anyone help further with this please? The area is Melbourne.
Apparently we can't access marriages after 1946!
Just wondered if anyone living in the Melbourne area may know this particular lady please?
Many thanks
