GingerGirl90 Report 24 Aug 2011 08:45

I have new information which leads me to believe that when my grandmother (Pamela Robinson nee Thompson) remarried she settled in Kent.

??

Births Dec 1922
Thompson Pamela M Hills Sevenoaks 2a 1310

Up to 2005 I can not see a PAMELA M/MABEL BORN 1922 in the death indexes that would fit.

Sorry but I have to ask, what last name did you search under? Thanks.

FAIRTHORN

FAIRTHORN Report 25 Aug 2011 12:00

I did not use a last name just her first names & Born 1922

:-)

you can do it on Ancestry

GingerGirl90

GingerGirl90 Report 25 Aug 2011 14:57

Oh I didn't know that. :-) Honestly, this is a shock because I heard she died a long time ago but thank you, I appreciate it.

FAIRTHORN

FAIRTHORN Report 26 Aug 2011 06:10

But bear in mind that it only covers England/Wales
she may have gone aboard etc

Almost four million Brits are living abroad <<<<<<<<

Plus if the person who registered her death got the birth year wrong !!! :-S

GingerGirl90

GingerGirl90 Report 26 Aug 2011 07:33

Well, I have been told that she remained somewhere in the UK. (ok, so MAYBE its Scotland) The person who registered her death is supposed to be her son (my uncle) Peter and if so he would have known her birth year. Sad as it is, I have been lied to and my grandmother might even still be alive.

It's so entertaining researching a family with such a common name and its made so much better when members of that family lie constantly.

Sorry, I'm an American and I can't help but add a bit of sarcasm in here. :-D

Anyway thanks again for the help.

GingerGirl90 Report 27 Aug 2011 11:19

Hi,

Thank you so much I really appreciate this. I'm just wondering, do you know if there's a way I can trace whether or not my grandmother kept her married name after she divorced my grandfather? It would have been in either 1969 or 1970. Thanks.

GingerGirl90 Report 19 Sep 2011 19:29

I have a question; does anyone know if there is a way to trace a persons marriage using their date of birth?

chrissiex Report 19 Sep 2011 19:47

no, marriages can only be found in the index by name, and the date ( quarter of the year ) and place ( registration district )

only the actual certificate will say the age and then just age, not date of birth

and for your previous question, the only way to know what name a person used is to find a record of the person using a particular name :-)

for example if the person used the name when they married or if their death was registered under the name

it's often a case of you have to know what you are trying to find out, before you can find it !

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 19 Sep 2011 19:50

Not to my knowledge (in the UK at least). The GRO index only gives names, quarters, year and registration district, and I don't think PR on line are searchable by age.

The information as to ages on the certificate are only as good as is given, and the parties often 'fudge' the ages to appear younger/older. Until the (mid?) 19th century, they only said 'of full age' which could be anything between 21 and 101!

**do you know if there's a way I can trace whether or not my grandmother kept her married name after she divorced my grandfather?**
Possibly historical ER may give the answer, but as she had children, she may have kept her married name for their sake. No doubt it depends how 'liberated' she felt.
