FAIRTHORN Report 28 Jul 2011 14:05

Did not read the last part
but my message to Matthew did not mention his father, just the facts of his granddad's whereabouts.

THANKS as I was sending him another message
re Matthew's dad's half siblings, unless some else has done so.

FAIRTHORN

FAIRTHORN Report 28 Jul 2011 12:50

Found Joseph J Harman
It has to be him ( unless this bloke was not born in England/Wales)

SENT TO MATTHEW
warned to be careful

Does Matthew's dad know about the children of the marriages ? <<<<<<<<<

:-S

Flick

Flick Report 28 Jul 2011 12:38

The birth cert details are 'as given' by the informant...........people didn't always tell the whole truth

Also, the registrar may have made assumptions about the marital status of the child's parents which were not 100% accurate.

Joseph's first marriage was in Oxfordshire - tallies with the 1925 birth reg'n.

The second was in Paddington, not a million miles from your father's birthplace

His wives were named June, Daphne and Jean, in order of marriage

I checked the electoral roll for you and there is nothing showing for him. If he died after 2005 there will be no record available online

You could try that death certificate for Margaret and hope there is a lead?

matthew Report 28 Jul 2011 10:10

He's not showing on the ER either

Have you had a look on Scotlands People just in case they married there? If they are not there then it looks like Flicks theory might be correct

Your grandmother may have just taken Josephs name, things were not as accurate back in the 50s!

i have tried conacting another member who has the joseph j c harman born in 1925 in there tree for futher deatails. i was just a little confused at why my fathers birth certificate would call her margaret harman if they where not married

Flick

Flick Report 28 Jul 2011 10:01

There is no death for him on Ancestry, so it would appear that he was alive up to 2005.............

Flick

Flick Report 28 Jul 2011 09:58

There is only one birth for the name, in 1925, so it looks as though all the marriages are his................and that Margaret was an 'interlude' between the first (1947) and second (1959)

Gee

Gee Report 28 Jul 2011 09:58

I wonder if this is your grandfathers birth? Does his mothers name ring any bells?

There are three marriages on Ancestry for Joseph J C Harman.....none to anyone named Strachan.

It may, of course, be that they weren't actually married

matthew

matthew Report 28 Jul 2011 09:56

i looked on the marrige records from this site. should i be looking somewhere else? i mainly look for joseph j c harman as i though that would be less common in the marrige records than margaret strachan

Flick

Flick Report 28 Jul 2011 09:51

Where did you look for the marriage?

'Formerly Strachan'.....that's a Scottish surname

i am trying to find my fathers parents but have very little information and wondered if any one could help? All i have is some information from my fathers birth certificate which gives his parents names joseph james charles harman and his mother margaret harman formaly strachan. i cannot find any marrige records for these names and do no really know how i can know if the birh records i am looking at are correct. the only other information i have is they where living in battersea london in 1956 when my father was born. i would love to find these people or relatives of them as my father died without knowing any of his family. any help anyone could give me would be great

thanks matt
