Find Living Relatives

I am trying to locate a relation for a friend.She was born on 22nd Sept 1941 in Hardlesden & as far as I know she & her two sisters were placed in the Sacred Heart Convent in Lewisham around the early 1950's.Her two sisters were Maureen & Kathleen & she had three brothers.Her Father was Irish & died in 1959.(possibly John J O'Sullivan).
Bridget worked as a Typist & lived in Westbourne Grove Kensington in 1963/64.
Her birth could not be traced-maybe registered under another name or could Bridget be a middle name.
Stephen is very keen for any information on her.

We don't know her parents names but think her Father was John J O'sullivan.
We have papers that give her date of birth-Stephen is a very close blood relative.

There are too many Bridget O'sullivans that married after 1963 to say which one is her if any

Dates and ages would help for any of her relatives. There are so many O'Sullivans.

It's hard to understand the situation without more info. Was John married before? When did he marry the mother of Maureen and Kathleen? Would help to know her name.

If he weren't married to Bridget's mother, then it's unlikely her name was O'Sullivan.

I see Stephens birth so Bridget is his mother and yes you are right Rose there are too many John O'sullivan marriages and most of them are in London

As far as we know Bridget's Mother was married to John O'Sullivan but have no idea of her name or when they married.Only know that her sisters were Kathleen & Maureen & that one was married & the other a dressmaker in 1964.Her three brothers were living at home in Kilburn with the Mother.
I thought as it was War time she might have been evacuated after birth & registered elsewhere.
We have her National Insurance no -anyway of tracing her through that?
I am not familiar with the English BMD system as all my relatives are Scottish/Irish.
No don't have the death certificate - what info does an English death certificate give-parents names?Spouse's name? marital status? Worth buying?

I'm gobsmacked at the paucity of information on English Death certificates-how do you know you have the right person when their parents name or marital status & names of wife/wives are not on it?
Scotland did well in waiting for Stat Reg & doing it better.
Thanks for the advice re the Adoption Registers & the Dept of Work & Pension.Will give both a try.

After 1969, English/Welsh certs have actual DOB, birthplace and (if a married woman) maiden surname.

BUT........all that info is 'as known' to the informant........presumably the same applies in Scotland

Flick, in Scotland since Statutory registration began death certificate have always given the parents names including the mother's maiden surname and all spouses names if the informant knew the details. Marriage certificates have given the names of both parents including the mother's maiden surname.

Thats the trouble, does not matter what country they died in if the informant does not know, or gives incorrect info...whats the point?

I doubt whether when my own grandparents died (together) that any of their children knew what their grandparents names were if they were to be added to the certs? As they died in England it was'nt asked but as it was after 1969 their dates of births were, and one of those was wrong

Well another advantage in Scotland is the tradition of naming children. My maternal grandmother was one of ten children and seven of her siblings had childen resulting in my Great Grandmother having 6 grandchildren (and even some great grandchildren) named for her including her maiden surname! The same thing happened on my father's side so I have always been aware of my Grandmothers' maiden surnames and those of my Great Grandmothers.

One thing I did not understand when I sadly registered my mum's death in England, the registry ask for her date of marriage, which is not put on the certificate.

this data was used & linked to her pension, so they would know to stop any future payments.
