The Mercury, Leeds was acquired on 26 November 1939 by:

Yorkshire Post Newspapers are publishers of the Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Evening Post. They are based at offices in Wellington Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire. They are ultimately owned by Johnston Press plc.

Have you approached them to see if they have any records of past employees who may have served in the Armed Forces?

Hello Perchino

I did correspond with World war 1 forum I found that Edgar had enlisted
when under age and was discharged at a later date, but did re enlist when of age. I have wondered if he enlisted in WW2 and again perhaps lied about his age.?

Hello Perchino.

I am sorry I don't know the district, which Edgar moved to in London.
Gerald remembers that his mother told him that Edgar corresponded, using a post box number, which terminated after a short period of time.
Gerald was evacuated to Burley in Wharfedale and his father visited him, at school, just the once, so we are not sure if Edgar returned to Yorkshire.
I don't know who Edgar worked for. I do know he worked for a newspaper in Leeds prior to the family moving to Shefield. I think the paper was called The Mercury
Kind regards.and thank you for your time spent.

Hello Margaret,
Do you know which district in London Edgar moved to in 1939? As an Engineer's Clerk who did he work for? Bearing in mind that 1939 was the year WW2 broke out and he appears to have already served in the Armed Forces in WW1 I am wondering what impact WW2 had on his life.
At the moment I cannot see his name obviously on a Passenger List post WW2. The most likely countries for emigration would be Australia, New Zealand, Canada and USA.

Hello Elizabeth.

Eveline Mary Grainger death in 1983 is correct. Evelile was Edgar's wife.

With regret the death of Edgar Grainger in Pontifract is the wrong Edgar Grainger. this is the wrong family. I have these details.

We do not have any information on our Edgar Grainger, only as given.
as this appears the only Edgar Grainger on record we wonder if he could have gone abroad.

Thank you so much for your interest.

Could this be a possible death? I know the age doesn't add up properly and the surname is spelt wrongly but I searched for a death of an Edgar Grainger (including name variants) born 1897 +/- 5 years and the only one without a middle initial was this one:-

Name: GRANGER, Edgar
Registration District: Ploughley
County: Oxfordshire
Year of Registration: 1960
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at death: 68
Volume No: 6B
Page No: 1130
