Thanks Rachel & Gareth, glad to have helped - although you've done most of it yourselves, I just pointed you in the possible directions to research. :-)

So sad your father died so young, but good luck, I hope you all get the answers you are looking for <3

2 of the 3 potential re-marriages for Karen can be ruled out as they are found with husbands on the ERs and too young for your Karen. That only leaves 1, but again it is to an Evans. These details have also been sent by PM.

I've asked how sure you are about the date for her son's birth - if it really was in Q41983 it would rule out a lot of other Andrew's. And we would be left with a couple, both with middle names.

Afraid this is just narrowing things down, and it will mean you will need to buy some certificates to confirm the information. As Karen is not readily showing on 192.com you may need to try to find her son.

Flip Report 27 May 2013 08:58

Well, that would narrow down the date for a marriage 1977 - 1983. There are only 3 Karen H marriages during that period, 2 of the marriages did not have a son Andrew. The third marriage was to another Evans (nightmare) , which I think is the most likely but looking for an Evan/Evans birth is not easy.

I'll PM the marriage details, as they are too recent for posting on this open site. That way you can look for yourself, make sure I haven't missed a birth.

90% sure she was married before having the baby! Think she had connections with glouster pretty sure she named the baby andrew! We really dont have much info on any of them :(

Flip Report 26 May 2013 13:35

Do a bit more pumping for info - it may help to know if Karen was already married when the baby was born or did she get married later?

Had another look, I think the parents may have stayed local - there is a death for Hazel Florence Evans in Feb.1990 reg Pontypool, gives her dob as 9/2/1931, which could match with this birth:

Births Mar 1931 (>99%)
Phillips Hazel F Coombes Abergavenny 11a 75

Also a death in Newport for William John K Evans in Aug.97 giving a dob of 9/9/1926 - again it could match with this birth (although it's surprising how many with the full string of initials were around:

Births Dec 1926 (>99%)
Evans William J K Pritchard Bedwellty 11a 90

I missed this birth yesterday - Karen H Evans, mmn Phillips in Q1/1961 registered Pontypool, so could her.

Have you both talked to your mothers, see if there are any other clues - it's such a common name to research? Also, it may be worth talking to the cemetery office - see if they can give any more information on the grave owner, or give you the name of the undertaker - someone must have paid the funeral bill.

Thanks Marie for trying!

Rachel, Marie can only check the on-line newspaper archives, so you may need to look more locally as they are not available on-line. The local library should have back-dated newspapers to cover the period and you have some specific dates so it shouldn't be too difficult if you have someone local - or ask the library.

The inquest reports may or may not hold a clue, but worth checking out I think. Could give some lead on the person buying the burial plot? Not sure where it will take you. You don't have much else to go on at the moment so every lead is worth following.

Hello Rachel, Flip asked me to check out the newspaper archives. Unfortunately, the British Newspaper Archives only go up to 1963 so I'm unable to help on this one. Sorry.

rachel Report 25 May 2013 16:48

Im extreamly greatful for what u are doing!
He died jan20th inquest 27th jan but adjurned intil oct 29th 1993 his funeral took place on the 21st may 1993 his death cert was signed by coronor on the 29th oct x

Flip

Flip Report 25 May 2013 16:39

The inquest was probably opened on 27 Jan, but it can take months (sometimes years) to conclude an inquest, and until it is concluded the death cert is not issued - the family receive an interim death cert to enable burial. (my father died & was buried in 1980 but his death wasn't registered until late 1981 due to the inquest). What date was David's burial (I see the death registration was submitted Q4 1993), so if the death date is correct the inquest must have concluded in that quarter.

I've sent a PM to another member who has access to newspaper archives, so hopefully she may shed some light on any reports.

rachel

rachel Report 25 May 2013 16:23

Hi again i think the inquest may of been adjurned to the 29th october 1993 xx

rachel

rachel Report 25 May 2013 16:12

The inquest took place on the 27th jan 1993 in bromley kent! We are unclear but we think he died alone as it was a long time before a burial took place :( we know he was very close to his sister karen so thats whats making it all confusing! Me and gareth are half brother and sister there is 4 of us altogether gareth and lisa were from his 1st wife then he got with my mum and had me and christopher! We not 100% but think karen had a son and named him andrew in 1980/1981not sure on the date but there was definatly a baby boy if thats any help? Also there is a kathleen joyce down as his grave owner but we not sure who this lady is maybe a girlfriend. :-\ we really are in the dark.

Flip Report 25 May 2013 16:03

OK, PM from Karen, David's death registered by coroner - so maybe an inquest, could there be anything in the local newspapers??

rachel

rachel Report 25 May 2013 15:39

Ok will do :)

Flip

Flip Report 25 May 2013 15:34

Could you get Gareth to go back to his post and un-mark this as answered - that way more people are likely to try to help. He marked Lynski's post as answered, so that shows up on the board and looks like you no longer need any help. Which obviously isn't the case.

Flip

Flip Report 25 May 2013 15:30

Do you know if the parent's stay local to Pontypool, when/where did Hazel die please (& did she stay with Mr Evans)? As it looks like David was the eldest, it would help to know if they moved away as I'm not seeing a birth for a Karen in the same district.

You have two variations on one brother's name, Ethan and Ivan - is it possible it was Evan as there is one born to Evans/Phillips in Pontypool in 1954?

Does the person registering David's death give any more clues?

rachel

rachel Report 25 May 2013 14:51
