What happened to her and her husband after the marriage? I can find no sign of her. There is a marriage of a Madeleine T Farrell but I think that is someone else.

Hi Alan,

Where did you get the original information?

If you have a copy of the marriage certificate it will give their full names, age, occupation, marital status, address and their father's names & occupation. There will also be witnesses named. If you don't have this I would be tempted to order a copy from GRO.

It could be she was never registered under the name you have, she may have been adopted. Like Rose, I can't see anything for her other than the marriage - did they divorce & when did you last know her whereabouts?

alan Report 1 Jun 2012 11:14

Sorry for delay in response, daint realise I had second page lol. I think she may have re-married in 1984 under her maiden name. I think divorce occured in 1973. Her last whereabouts were Newport Shropshire

Hi Alan, easy done to miss page 2, I've certainly been caught out by that in the past.

I can see the marriage you mean (in Shropshire), but there is no middle initial so wouldn't be too sure about it, think you would need marriage certificate before going any further, it could be an altogether different Madeline.

However, that couple were on the 2002 ER in Broxborne, EN10, according to 192.com but as you know you need to pay to view full address.

I saw they were on 192, so obviously left shrops area. In some ways because Madeline is an unusual name anyway, the spelling is also unusual, its easy to look. I do know she moved to Wellington in Shrops for a while, which is in North Shrops, but like you say, still can't be 100% sure

The sister listed is a half sister. Madeline must be Madeline M T Fry and her mother remarried a Stanton, hence the sister's name.

Her father was Aubrey John Fry and mother Irene Winifred Nash.

Madeline was born in 1940 and married a Watson in 1960. Possible children born

Alan, do you have that marriage cert. with her age listed?

Edit: Previous post deleted for some reason so my reply looks out of place.

You might want to consider using a 3rd party to contact her like the Salvation army or someone.

The forenames say ''Ireland' to me.

What info are you starting with, which is cast iron correct and accurate ( not supposition)?

If she is your birth mother, her age atthe time of your birth will be in your file- do you have your file?

KathleenBell Report 3 Jun 2012 14:35

There is only one birth for that name on Findmypast. It is in 1944 but in a completely different part of the country to where she married - although that wouldn't make it the wrong birth.

I will pm the details of the birth.

I am not convinced with this one

Has the marriage to Farrell been missed out?

Fry to Watson then Watson to the name she is now

Why would she say her father was John Watson or say her maiden name was Watson when Alan was born if her name was Fry? or have I missed something?

Sorry for delay getting back to everyone, jubilee celebrations etc. First of all can I say I'm overwhelmed with amount of suggestions, help etc. Thank you to each of you. I'm gonna have to look close at messages, as at moment I'm really confused by all info. The main question that keeps recurring is age, definately 21 at my time of birth

Flip

Flip Report 4 Jun 2012 23:18

Where exactly did the age come from please?

You obviously have more info than the rest of us, but is this definite info from your adoption file - it wouldn't be available from you birth reg.

alan

alan Report 5 Jun 2012 08:52

From adoption files, unfortunately my ex has them, I'm in process of getting new copies

Flip

Flip Report 5 Jun 2012 10:24

I agree with Jax and am not convinced by the Fry connection.

For an adoption social services (or other such agency) would have been involved, and they are quite thorough in their research before allowing an adoption, so would think the age is correct.

Are you still in contact with your father, or have you tried to trace him to see if he can remember anything more about her?

alan

alan Report 5 Jun 2012 10:52

Dad will not talk about her in any way what so ever, and I also think it would upset him if he knew was searching. Must agree don't think Fry connection adds up. Sure her dad's name was john watson, and that she was 21. Also she moved to Wellington (Shrops) in 1973 to live above a garage. But as I said before I am really grateful for all the trouble everyone seems to be going to.

Hi Alan

It must be really difficult for you and would rule out talking to any other family members. Do you have their marriage certificate - thinking the witnesses may give another lead - maybe one was related to your mother?

alan

alan Report 5 Jun 2012 12:26

i must have a 'small marriage cert", are there different sorts?

Flip

Flip Report 5 Jun 2012 13:12

Not that I know of, there are "short" birth certificates but I wasn't aware of marriage ones - no doubt someone will correct this if I'm wrong.

The marriage certificate gives both of their names, ages, occupation, marital status, any previous names. It also gives fathers names & occupations, and who witnessed the marriage. If what you have does not give all this then I'm not sure what it is, possibly something from your adoption file.

If necessary, you can order a copy from the GRO - do you have the reference?
