FMP? probably been told already :-S

jax Report 5 Jun 2012 15:55

There is the one Madeline T Watson birth in 1944 which Kath mentioned have you ruled that one out? it is not on freebmd or ancestry..but it is on FMP

alan Report 5 Jun 2012 15:39

looks like i'm at a full stop :-(

Flip Report 5 Jun 2012 15:35

Scotlands People (pay to view), there are no Scottish births for this era on a free site. Just had a quick look, and no Madeline Watson 1943-46 birth. has the Irish civil registrations, but I don't know if they have full coverage. Just done a quick check and can't spot her on there.

What makes you think of Ireland/Scotland?

alan Report 5 Jun 2012 15:15

how would i search scottish and irish births?

Flip Report 5 Jun 2012 14:40

OOPS indeed!! ;-)

So, born between 10/9/44 and 9/9/45 if she didn't lie about her age! But still no sign of her birth.

Think Ray John was born Walsall 1942, also married in 1968 to a Carole L, possibly a friend of your fathers? They are on 2012 ER in Wolverhampton on

alan Report 5 Jun 2012 14:17

Found Marriager Certificate. First of all oops :-S Madeline Theresa Watson (Spinster), aged 23 (not 21) , 95 Somerfield Road, Father, John Watson. Married 9th Sept 1968, Witnesses M Wilcox and what looks like Ray John Wilcox (bit blurred).Married in Walsall

Flip Report 5 Jun 2012 13:12

Not that I know of, there are "short" birth certificates but I wasn't aware of marriage ones - no doubt someone will correct this if I'm wrong.

The marriage certificate gives both of their names, ages, occupation, marital status, any previous names. It also gives fathers names & occupations, and who witnessed the marriage. If what you have does not give all this then I'm not sure what it is, possibly something from your adoption file.

If necessary, you can order a copy from the GRO - do you have the reference?

alan Report 5 Jun 2012 12:26

i must have a 'small marriage cert", are there different sorts?

Flip Report 5 Jun 2012 12:00

Hi Alan

It must be really difficult for you and would rule out talking to any other family members. Do you have their marriage certificate - thinking the witnesses may give another lead - maybe one was related to your mother?

alan Report 5 Jun 2012 10:52

Dad will not talk about her in any way what so ever, and I also think it would upset him if he knew was searching. Must agree don't think Fry connection adds up. Sure her dad's name was john watson, and that she was 21. Also she moved to Wellington (Shrops) in 1973 to live above a garage. But as I said before I am really grateful for all the trouble everyone seems to be going to.

Flip Report 5 Jun 2012 10:24

I agree with Jax and am not convinced by the Fry connection.

For an adoption social services (or other such agency) would have been involved, and they are quite thorough in their research before allowing an adoption, so would think the age is correct.

Are you still in contact with your father, or have you tried to trace him to see if he can remember anything more about her?

alan Report 5 Jun 2012 08:52

From adoption files, unfortunately my ex has them, I'm in process of getting new copies

Flip Report 4 Jun 2012 23:18

Where exactly did the age come from please?

You obviously have more info than the rest of us, but is this definite info from your adoption file - it wouldn't be available from you birth reg.

alan Report 4 Jun 2012 21:10

Sorry for delay getting back to everyone, jubilee celebrations etc. First of all can I say I'm overwhelmed with amount of suggestions, help etc. Thank you to each of you. I'm gonna have to look close at messages, as at moment I'm really confused by all info. The main question that keeps recurring is age, definately 21 at my time of birth

jax Report 3 Jun 2012 15:19

I am not convinced with this one

Has the marriage to Farrell been missed out?

Fry to Watson then Watson to the name she is now

Why would she say her father was John Watson or say her maiden name was Watson when Alan was born if her name was Fry? or have I missed something?

KathleenBell Report 3 Jun 2012 14:35

There is only one birth for that name on Findmypast. It is in 1944 but in a completely different part of the country to where she married - although that wouldn't make it the wrong birth.

I will pm the details of the birth.

Kath. x

Penny Report 3 Jun 2012 06:16

The forenames say ''Ireland' to me.

What info are you starting with, which is cast iron correct and accurate ( not supposition)?

If she is your birth mother, her age atthe time of your birth will be in your file- do you have your file?

You might want to consider using a 3rd party to contact her like the Salvation army or someone.
