My Mum is looking to locate her sister she has never met, please could I ask you very kind people for your help, this is all the information we have I am sorry.

My Grandad brought up the conversation with my mother about her having a sister after he had visited a psychic with my Nan, who told him that he would win lots of money.  Sadly this never happened.  He told my Mum that she had a sister and that if they won the pools he would want her to have a share!  He went on to say that he had had a girlfriend before my Nan and that she had fell pregnant, he wanted to marry her but she did not want to marry him. My Grandad's family were not well to do. He told my Mum that she married a police man (we are not sure before or after his daughter was born). My Nan then came in the room and the conversation stopped.

My mum never brought it up again as we thing that my Nan didn't know as we are sure that my Nan would have given him a hard life if so. She was a hard lady and he was the kindest softest person you could have met.

I'm sure my Nan was clueless as she would quite happily sit through lost family member programs.  My Nan was the lady who got me interested in my family tree to start with and even gave me her and Grandad's DNA which I have on Ancestry to find out more about their past.  I secretly hoped that we may find my Mums sister with Grandad's DNA, but not many people have this done, so it was a short straw.

My Grandad had also told in private his other sons and my father but they also know very little information when asked.

My Nan fell pregnant with my mum and they married before she was born.

My Granddad was Mr Benjamin Robinson (Ben) - Born 1927 in West Derby.

Lived at 13 Mill Road, West Derby, Liverpool.

My Mum Jillian Robinson was born January 1953 - Liverpool, West Derby.  She also has two younger brothers.

My Mum has found a letter from Grandad to my Nan dated 7th August 1950 which read -

I thought I would remind you about the photo you were going to give me, you know I still have that other girl's photo on my dresser.

Hope this helps, This is all we have to go on, thank you for taking the time to read this and sorry it's a bit long winded.

Thank you again,

Julia

So at the very least difficult we are looking for a girl born to an unmarried mother in West Derby before the end of 1950?

Added:
West Derby abolished : 1.10.1934 (to become part of Liverpool North, Bootle, and Crosby)

jax

jax Report 15 Jul 2012 14:45

Unless this child is looking for her father and comes accross this post, there is not much chance of finding her, If her mother married someone else and the child took his name she would be none the wiser anyway

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 15 Jul 2012 14:59

The child's birth would be in the mother's name...unless you have that info, no chance, I'm afraid

Unless, as jax says, she looks for her biological father - assuming she was told who he was.............

patchem Report 15 Jul 2012 15:19

There are about 130 illegitimate girls born in Liverpool North per year in the 1950's.
She might have been born elsewhere.
However, your grandfather knew that it was a girl, so it is a pity there is no other information.
If the mother married before the baby's birth it will not even show as illegitimate.
Unfortunately some more information is required.

He may have been the kindest softest person, but he got 2 girls pregnant so not blameless.

I am looking to locate my auntie not asking for moral judgment about my Grandad thank you.

Thank you everybody for you help, unfortunately when my Nan died my Grandad (who had Alzheimer's) died a few months later, so we never brought up his other daughter as we didn't want to stress him out anymore.

He has one living brother but he has severe Alzheimer's no we have no further links.

She may have never been told about her father, but I can only hope she was and that she find this post in the future, but at least I tried.

Thank you again,

Julia

Julia,

Put as many details of Ben on this thread as you can. Add his date of birth, his parents, siblings, etc. If she ever goes looking on Google she might find this thread.

You are the one asking for help - and letting people know what your grandfather did when he was young.

So don't get touchy............

Thank you rose you are very kind, I will add all this information shortly.

Reggie, I have a right to reply about this comment as it deeply upset me, most people on here have a skeleton or two in there closet, wether they gave their baby's away or got women pregnant. Yes I am asking for help and you really do not know how thankful I am for this, but this comment was not called for. We are talking about real people who were loved and I think that it's important to be able to ask for help without moral judgement.

Thank you Reggie this is my Grandads birth ref.

Kingmill, thank you for your reply, my Grandads living brother does have a wife but unfortunately she is 10 years younger than him so was not about at the time and he's never mentioned it to her unfortunately. All other wife's have also passed. but thank you so much.

I knew this was an impossible one but I am so thankfully for everybody's time.

Hi Julia.
I've been watching this with interest. It seems impossible on the face of it doesn't it, unfortunately.
As Rose suggests, you need to put names of the family on this thread and I suggest putting all of them on your family tree too. You never know, she might go looking one day.
The only other thing which occurred to me is whether friends or neighbours knew anything. If you know where he was living at the time it might be worth seeing who else was living in the street. A very long shot I know, and it would take a monumental effort to track anyone down, but nothing to lose is there?

Thank you Jan, I agree its worth a try, every suggestion is greatly received, I will ask my Mum about the neighbours.

Here is the information that Rose suggested-

Benjamin Robinson ( Ben or Benny)
Born: 2nd September 1927, West Derby, Liverpool.
Death: 5th May 2010 West Derby, Liverpool.

Address: 13 Mill Road, West Derby, Liverpool.

Mother: Edith Robinson Nee Lewis
Father: Benjamin Robinson
Brothers:
William 1923-1977
George 1924-?
Reginald 1933 to date
John 1937-2008

Work:

My Grandad was given a clock for a wedding present in 1953 from National Benzole Co. Dingle installation Liverpool. (Maybe he met the mystery lady at work?) he also worked for a brewery delivering barrels.

He went onto work with my nan at Plessey, Edge Lane, Liverpool until he retired about 1987.

I have a photo of my Grandad at the West Derby Weight Lifting Club he used to attend, he is the young man on the bottom far right and next to him on his left is my mothers god father Arthur Taylor but unfortunately he has passed now. I will try to attach it.

My mum has also been in contact with my Nans best friend who knows nothing, so my Nan must not have known.

My grandad battled with depression when he was younger, what a secret to bare, for sure he would have lost my nan if she ever found out!

Hope this helps, thank you again for your help.

Hi, this is the only way I can do it, the iPad I'm using is not letting me add the individual pictures. I've also added a picture of my Grandad as a young man to the album, please let me know if you are unable to access it.

Julia, just to explain - you put 'bare with me' (as in naked!) rather than 'bear' - I was just teasing a little!!
